Hoke needs to swallow his pride and admit that Michigan is overmatched against Ohio State this season. Overmatched teams need to adapt to compete.

Maybe next year Hoke can return to the power football he envisions, but for now Michigan needs to pull out every trick play and gimmick formation Borges can think of.

Meyer won’t be expecting it; it’s not what Michigan teams do.

And that’s why it’s Michigan’s only chance on Saturday.

Michigan heads in this year’s edition of The Game reeling, having lost four out of their last six games, while Ohio State is cruising. Michigan is a double-digit underdog at home versus Ohio State and has an opportunity for an epic upset victory over their great rival.

A victory would provide Hoke with a signature win and knock the Buckeyes out of the national title picture. It would also provide a needed jolt to a rivalry that is relying way too much on history to promote itself.

There hasn’t been any grumbling from the Michigan defense while the offense has struggled this season. But with a last-minute loss to Nebraska, a near-loss to Northwestern and today’s loss to Iowa, where the offense has gone MIA, the frustration must be growing.

The defense has been good enough to compete for the Big Ten title, while the offense has been mediocre at best.

Brady Hoke will need to make some changes in the offseason to balance the equation.

His defense deserves better than this.
