What’s Next?

Aha!  Finally!  Something to talk about.

This week, Michigan plays two games.  On Monday (11/04/2024, 8:00 p.m., BTN) they play Cleveland State in Crisler Arena, then on Sunday (11/10/2024, 1:00 p.m., ESPN2) they play Wake Forest in Greensboro, NC.  The Wake Forest game is part of the brand new Deacon-Wolverine Challenge.

Cleveland State was 21-15 last season, 11-9 in the Horizon League.  They didn’t have any noteworthy wins or losses.  They lost in the 2nd round of the Horizon League Tournament, then they lost in the 2nd round of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).  They don’t have any noteworthy players, and they don’t have much height: no one over 6’9”.  This is a game that Michigan should win, especially if they can capitalize on their big height advantage.

Wake Forest was 21-14 last season, 11-9 in the ACC.  They beat (#8) Duke, and they didn’t have any puzzling losses.  They lost in the 2nd round of the ACC Tournament, then they lost in the 2nd round of the NIT.  They don’t have any noteworthy players, but they do have some height: a 7-footer and a 6’10” player.  This will be a good test for Michigan, especially on the road.  This is technically a neutral site game, but Greensboro is a lot closer to Wake Forest than it is to Ann Arbor.  I expect the crowd to be 95% Wake Forest fans, making this a virtual home game for them.

Check back next week to find out what happened and why.
