Spring practice has begun in Ann Arbor, Mich., but youwouldn’t know it by the weather. An early start combined with the lingering effects of the polar vortex has Michigan practicing indoors as snow and ice remain piled up outside.
The uncharacteristic sub-zero temperatures match the general mood after last season’s 7-6 finish.
Michigan returns to the practice field eager to forget the memories of last season’s disastrous collapse. With outside temperatures in the low single digits, the team practiced in their massive indoor practice facility, shielded from the bitter wind chill outside and any prying eyes hoping to get a glimpse of the workouts.
As Michigan begins spring practice, the heat is on Hoke as he enters his fourth season. Michigan needs to drastically improve last season’s record, or fan frustration may boil over.
Michigan enters spring practice with significant questions on both sides of the ball, but with none more important than how to improve the offense.
The following players have an opportunity to move up the depth chart—or slide back down depending on their performance—during the spring.
Michigan finished 7-6, 3-5 Big Ten Conference, resulting in offensive coordinator Al Borges being fired and replaced with Doug Nussmeier from Alabama. Borges paid the price for the team’s epic fall from Big Ten title contender to the depths of the Legends Division.
The dismissal of Borges will lead to a new look for the Michigan offense which struggled mightily behind an offensive line that was shuffled for practically every game.
