Sunday (02/02/2014)

Purdue lost at Penn State, 79-68

Michigan lost at Indiana, 63-52

The home teams did very poorly this week, going 4-6. There were a lot of surprises this week:

  • Penn State won at Ohio State on Wednesday. Ohio State is normally unbeatable at home, especially against a lower-division team like Penn State.
  • Northwestern won at Wisconsin on Wednesday. Wisconsin is even more unbeatable at home, especially against a lower-division team like Northwestern.
  • Indiana lost at Nebraska on Thursday. Nebraska may be good at home, but not good enough to beat a tradition-laden team like Indiana.
  • Ohio State won at Wisconsin on Saturday. Wisconsin seldom loses a single home game in a season; this was their 3rd loss already. Ohio State came in off an embarrassing home loss to Penn State.
  • Northwestern won at Minnesota on Saturday. Minnesota is another team that seldom loses at home, especially to a lower-division team like Northwestern.
  • Michigan State lost vs. Georgetown on Saturday. MSU came in ranked #7, and Georgetown was unranked and had lost 5 games in a row.
  • Michigan lost at Indiana on Sunday. Michigan came in undefeated in the Big Ten, and ranked #10. Indiana came in off an embarrassing loss at Nebraska.

This was the most unpredictable and upset-filled week I can ever remember in the Big Ten.

The Upcoming Week

There are 3 big games this week:

  • Ohio State at Iowa on Tuesday – Iowa is tough at home, and they’re trying to stay in the hunt for the Big Ten title. Ohio State is desperate for a win.
  • Michigan at Iowa on Saturday – A tough week for Iowa.
  • Michigan State at Wisconsin on Sunday – Another battle between the top teams in the league.
