This is the point in Michigan basketball where the AD has to make a declaration.
Is Michigan a Football School and basketball is/will always be 2nd fiddle. or are we an elite basketball school too. Beilein shouldn't have been the 20th highest paid coach for what he did. If we go take whatever coach will take a 2.5 million salary then back to mediocrity and show the world that basketball will always be 2nd.
Go out and offer Mark Few or Tony Bennet 4.5+ mil a year like Izzo makes to come here and build a legacy with a salary to match. Then you show the world your ready to be elite. Someone get Mr Ross on the phone and see if he's ready to open his checkbook.
This is the best position Michigan basketball has been in in 20 plus years. This job is actually desirable again. We are in a position to go after an elite coach. Go do it.
Call Donovan, and Brad Stevens. Start there. Then move on if both day no thanks. I like Yakish but he has never been a head coach before and honestly we can do better right now.
I want to see Michigan being committed to the basketball program. Don’t hire internally because it’s easy and cheap. I fear that’s the route we will go...and we will slip back to mediocracy.
Football school it is. maybe the NIT next year at best. Since that is all Shaka "da world" Smart has been able to do since leaving VCU.
Word is those top 3 Donovan Marshall and Stevens are all out, White from florida has also said no. Beard is unlikely and Smart, Colley and Jordan are the 3 favorites..
It’s going to be LaVall Jordan. He checks all the boxes: ties to Michigan. Belien coaching tree. Squeaky clean.
Typical Michigan hire. Caring far more about image than on court results. I swear this school would rather go 0-20 and have nothing close to an NCAA violation than actually compete. they are still seeing ghosts of the Fab Five.
We got lucky with Belien. He was brought in to keep us clean and maybe win a few games. I don’t think anyone could of imagined that Belien was going to make us an elite program. And now we are going to throw all that equity down the drain. It was fun to have a great basketball team and have March mean something. Clearly basketball is not a priority for Michigan. It’s a shame too, you can be a football AND basketball school.
That would be a total wildcard. It would be an exciting hire for sure but truly untested.
So was Penny Hardaway to Memphis but that seems to have worked so far in recruiting for them… How he performs as a college basketball coach is another thing.
If Howard wants it...he should have it. He was the 1st to commit back in the day and recruited the rest of the Fab 5. Always the voice of reason among those crazy kids.
21 year NBA career...NBA champs, learning under Pat Riley for the last 3-4 yrs - and is being considered for NBA head coaching jobs.
I’m drinking Howard kool-aid if you can’t tell...lol
This is the best we can do? Belien takes us to two national championship games, Big Ten titles, and big ten tournament championships and we are down to Howard, Smart, and Jordon? That’s extremely disappointing.
Of those 3 give me Howard. I want no part of Smart. He had that one run at VCU and that’s it. Jordon does nothing to excite the fan base so go with Howard who has a high ceiling.

I'm going to make a statement that will probably get skewered.
Billy Donovan would be an Upgrade and is one of the few coaches in the last 15 years of College Basketball with a Resume Better than John Beilein.
as long as he brings his florida bagmen with him cause he pulled some 5 star kids when he was there.

Beilein ain't getting a star to build around.
A petition to fire Warde Manuel if that happens has also been started.
