Michigan made another impressive addition to its 2016 recruiting class when 2016 Boulder (Co.) Fairview LB/DE Carlo Kemp made official his verbal commitment moments ago.

After months of weighing pros and cons of all of his suitors Carlo Kemp finally decided upon a victor.  It turned out to be the school he fell in love with the first time he set foot on campus.

The four-star DE/LB prospect verbally committed to Michigan over Notre Dame and Colorado.

“Besides seeing 110,000 fans at the game it was definitely the family atmosphere from the coaches (and) how nice they are all of the time,” Kemp said describing what stood out most about his official visit earlier this fall..  “At practice they’re not yellers, they’re teachers.  They will yell like any other coach, but it’s not aggressive… it’s not harassment.  They just want you to be the best that you can be.  They’re teachers. They’ll break it down for you so you can get it right the next play.  When you do they’re all jumping (and) they’re all excited for you. It really just felt like a family.”

The relationship with Michigan defensive line coach Greg Mattison has been especially key. Kemp’s connection with his soon-to-be coach has been helped along by Mattison’s pre-existing relationship with Kemp’s uncle (Indianapolis Colts headman Chuck Pagano) going back to their days as Baltimore Ravens assistants.  From there Mattison bonded with the rest of the family, including Kemp’s grandfather and best friend Sam Pagano. Now Kemp has a connection with Mattison all his own.

“Coach Mattison is awesome.  He reminds me of my grandpa, just with all the knowledge and how nice and kind they both are.  I have a good relationship with him.”

That bond in addition to Kemp’s plan to enroll early should lend favorably to his readiness to compete for playing time right away. He will soon shift his focus to preparing to head to Ann Arbor now that his high school season is over. Fairview fell to Parker (Colo.) Chaparral 37-8.  Kemp finished the season with 71 tackles and four sacks."

great get - #1 at his position out of Colorado.
