How Mike Weber Saga Will Shape Future of Michigan-Ohio State Recruiting Rivalry

[quote]
Instate 4-star recruit Mike Weber’s decision to sign with Ohio State was always going to be controversial for Michigan fans. Weber added to insult to injury by decommitting during the fourth quarter of Michigan’s loss to Maryland last November and then switched his allegiance to archrival Ohio State after Brady Hoke’s dismissal.

But Ohio State’s subterfuge about the future of running backs coach Stan Drayton has caused outrage that threatens to undermine its future recruiting efforts in the state of Michigan

  • Does it really matter?  Ohio State usually has no more than 1 or 2 Michigan kids on their roster.  Ohio State came up to Detroit to make a point.  I don't even think they really wanted Weber.  They just wanted to stick it to Harbaugh.
  • In the grand scheme of things it's meaningless. It will further stoke the flames of the rivalry for fans and the coaches will use it in recruiting for prospects beyond the state of Michigan. It will allow Michigan to credibly cast doubt on the integrity of Meyer and Ohio State.

You can't overtake the power of a NC trophy with doubt about integrity though.
  • Urban's not stupid. He wanted to keep Weber out of Michigan and he did. I think Urban knows his days of taking the best high school talent in Michigan is over with Harbaugh and Wheatley, so he's getting out while he can. Plus, it's not like the best players Urb is pulling are coming from up north. He will use his resources in other states and do just fine.

Urbz is basically picking and choosing at this point.  We better get used to it.

We don't have to get used to it- just overcome it.  In any event, be prepared for two things to happen about three seasons from now:

    1) Michigan overtakes tOSU in recruiting.
    2) Urban has another bout of "mysterious" heart problems. Alleged unrelated issues in Columbus to surface immediately afterward.
  • Urban's not having any heart problems over losing HS recruits from the state of Michigan.

Under Hoke, he knew (and proved) he could further kick Michigan down by swiping the best recruits in the state.
Under Harbaugh, he probably knows it's not worth the effort and was willing to burn that bridge.

Correct- no heart problems involving Michigan recruits, but I'm sure some other impending scandal will cause some bloating and discomfort.... [:D]
  • So now Mikey has a photo taken by Jayru Campbell of him working out in Michigan gear....

Someone please tell this kid to stop. Also, please strip him of any and all U of M gear he is wearing. In public.
