Because of yesterday's events, I think the dynamic has now changed....as it relates to time. Previously, it was "the longer this drags on the better for us", now I feel it is the opposite, because if I drags till the NFL season, it means Jim's heart is still with the NFL (both now and into the future)...and he wants to field offers. But, if he really is committed to going to Michigan, it should be a quick process this week....

You think he's going to leave the 49ers before the season is over? Or even announce he's leaving?
To what end? So Michigan fans can shut up about things?
There are still guys on his roster playing for pride and most likely contract incentives, so it doesn't make any sense to me that he'll do/announce anything until the season is over.
As previously stated, if he weren't interested in the job Michigan would almost assuredly already have hired someone else. I don't think they are naive enough to be waiting until Harbaugh is available before they do anything. And if they are, they aren't very bright because things change quickly.
They had better already have an implied agreement with Harbaugh.
This is looking more and more like a done deal. I didn't think there was any possible way he'd come to Michigan but it's sure looking that way, if we're to believe multiple sources.
I just hope these leaks don't create another Les Miles backing out scenario.
The difference is Les Miles had a job at a team that was about to compete for a national title one time and a BCS bowl game the second time. JH is either coming to us or going to Oakland/Miami in the NFL to coach a bottom of the barrel NFL team because him and the Niners are done.
I agree with zjgm02. JH is a very loyal coach to his players and will do it the right way so as not to mess up any player's incentives, etc. Plus, Bo taught him to do it the right way.
I know 2 weeks sounds like an eternity but it will be over before you know it.. Also, AD Hackett sounds like one smart dude!!
It sounds a little like LeBron James coming home to Cleveland to help his struggling old team.
I think Jim is waiting to see what NFL jobs are open at the end of the year and to see who's interested. The Bears become a factor if they fire their coach.
The thing I don't get is why would Harbaugh agree to a trade? Why would he want the team he's going to, yo have less draft picks. Makes no sense to me.
I'm seeing reports now that the Bears are going to fire Trestman at the end of the season......is this going to affect Harbaughs decision? I could see why you'd pass on the Raiders and Jets, but with Chicago....there is a real possibility of a Super Bowl there, and his history with the team.

Have you seen Jay Cutler play at all this season? The Bears aren't winning anything as long as he's their QB! The reason the Bears hired Trestman was because they hoped he could reach Cutler and get him to live up to his potential and how's that worked out for them?
Oh, and even if the Bears want to get rid of Cutler, who's going to trade for him and inherit his ungodly overpriced contract?
Chicago isn't going anywhere with Droopy Dog under center. And there aren't any good URFA available next year, and nobody is going to trade a quality pick or QB for him. I don't think the Bears are very close to anything..........
and if the rumors were true that JH's wife would approve a move to AA because of the outpouring of emotion, I doubt there would be the same outpouring in an NFL city.

Pretty strong draft class for QBs though and the Bears will have a top pick. Looking at the teams that would be ahead of the Bears in the draft....only the Jets and Buccs are likely to take a QB in the 1st round.
I disagree on the QB depth. There are zero can't miss prospects. Mariotta could be another Manziel. Add a bunch of money to Winston and you can just start the countdown for when he'll wreck his career. After that you're looking at an up and down Hundley, Dak Prescott maybe, system QB Bryce Petty. I don't think any of those are going to be worth first round picks.
But hey, who knows. The new year can't get here fast enough
No, Michigan is right, and for Michigan, now that there’s smoke to the Harbaugh rumors – even if it might be Internet speculation run amok – you can’t go back. Sort of like Texas put its cheese out in the wind when the talk of names like a Harbaugh, any Harbaugh, Tomlin and Sumlin started to fire up, and the program had to go with a name head coach to satisfy all the different parts of the equation – the debate is still there as to whether or not Charlie Strong is that guy – Michigan can’t go Jim McElwain or Mike Riley. It has to go big at this point, and it has to go splashy if for no other reason than to show that it can.

Believe it, LOL This is so the internet

Yes, I'm hearing a lot of chatter, too - even here in Hawaii - from knowledgeable insiders, indicating odds of Harbaugh to UM going up.
