Michigan has contracted Korn Ferry, the world's largest executive search firm, to help with its current search to find a replacement for the recently fired Brady Hoke.

Per the athletic department, Michigan will pay Korn Ferry a minimum of $80,000, but nothing more than $250,000 depending on the amount of work that is needed during the search.

"Our process is moving along and many potential candidates have reached out and expressed an interest in the position. Korn Ferry is screening applicants, narrowing that list and identifying the best possible candidates for our institution," a Michigan spokesman said in a statement. "As (interim athletic director) Jim Hackett stated during his press conference, we don't believe that it's appropriate to comment on any potential candidates or the institutions or organizations they currently may be employed by during this search.

"We hope that you understand that we can't compromise the integrity of our search process by commenting prematurely."[/quote]

I don't believe we used a search firm with either of the last 2 hires. We used a firm for the AD hire, and the basketball hire of Belien but this would be the first I`m hearing of us using a firm for football.

Both Bill Martin and Dave Brandon tried proving they were smarter than the room on the football hires.
  • I don't think Hoke was really hired by a firm. Think it was more of 1. Harbaugh said no. 2. Miles said no. 3. Oh shit who else can we get? This guy.

Supposedly DB went after Pat Fitzgerald pretty hard. Where that fits on the timeline who knows.

He was just winging it though, same with Dollar Bill before him.
  • Is this a way to provide distance when Harbaugh is eventually announced as the hire, or did he finally give them a 'no' and they are starting from square one again?  I sure hope it's not the latter as they have had 10 days since Hoke was sent packing to come up with a contingency plan and get shot down by JH.

For me no news is good news on the Harbaugh front, so I don't like reading this.

  • This firm was hired prior to today. Just announced today. Don't fret, ZJGM.

The heck else can I do for the next two weeks until it's announced that the prodigal son will return?

    Whiskey.
  • ok, so not the firm, but I guess the head of the firm is a Michigan grad and according to this tweet:

  • That's a pretty big leap. The firm was used by MSC and she landed on DB (who had a lot of support going in) he turned around and hired Hoke.

Firms don't select employees, they just provide the pool of candidates.

    I'll drink to that!

  • Search firms don't "place" people. They don't hire people. They don't say this is your guy. They feel people out, see if they would fit, what they would bring to the job, then present that list to whomever hired the firm.
  • Lol im sorry but somewhere in buckeye country there are jokes being told about us hiring Korn Ferry. Just sayin im even laughin a little.
  • All I saw was "Michigan contacts Korn.." Before I clicked the thread.. Was really hoping for a Korn halftime show, it would have been the most awesome thing on the field at the Big House in 2 years.
  • I read somewhere Korn Ferry will be paid between $80K-$250K (that's quite a gulf) for their services. It appears I got in the wrong business. Hell I'll do Korn Ferry's work right now...

    1. Jim Harbaugh
    2. Bobby Petrino
    3. Sean Payton
    4. John Harbaugh
    5. Tom Herman
    6. If you cant get or choose not to hire anyone from the above list you are a moron & need to resign your post immediately.

    Where's my check?

I'm aware of your feelings about Petrino, we've discussed before. However that clown can win, & it pays to be a winner. I imagine if he was hired & rolled off records something like 9-4, 11-2, 14-1 you wouldn't be calling him a clown anymore. But as previously discussed he'll never get the chance so it doesn't matter. That list is just MHO of who the coaching candidates should be.

To be honest if I was in charge of the hire I'd have Petrino above Harbaugh because Harbaugh (if he'll even take the job) will be gone in 4-5 years no matter what. Petrino would likely stick around significantly longer & frankly IMO is a superior college coach. But of course unlike a lot of UM fans I'm not tethered to the "Michigan Man" 1986 power football thing nor to the idea that our HC has to have scrupulous morals & have lived the life of a monk prior to their arrival at UM. Which frees me up to look at things more objectively & less emotionally than some. I don't imagine very many successful operations of any kind are run with the same mindset as the UM Football program, & it's difficult to argue that the UM Football program has been run successfully for quite a while now. Given that since 1997 we've only had 1 truly great team in that 17 year stretch. I know change is scary but it's also very necessary. You're either growing or dying, & we've been dying for a long time now & that's do in large part to our inbred backward way of thinking.
  • That's a terrible list you put together. That list is worth about 2 cents.

Petrino? Never, ever going to happen. No, I don't care if he can win. That kind of person will never coach at Michigan. No, that doesn't mean Michigan will never be elite again. You can be elite and not have a coach with that kind of character leading your program.
  • I love it when people talk about power football being obsolete in the college game. A coach down Tuscaloosa does a pretty decent job playing 'old school' power ball.
Why? To me the answer is pretty clear, he gets the kids that want the best possible chance to showcase themselves and get to the next level. Look at the O and D line talent they continue to roll out there week in and out. How many Alabama linesman have gone high in the draft over the last 5+ years.

Harbaugh brings the cache and opportunity to get these kids ready for the next level. He fully understands what it takes to win, at both levels. Which to me almost provides him with with a blank check in recruiting kids we did not end up getting.

If Harbaugh does become the next coach, none of us will be surprised to see a few kids flip to Blue in January.

As well, don't let the last 4 years of Brady ball mislead you into a place where power ball cannot succeed. Clearly, Hoke could not get these kids to a level they needed to be successful.
As well, that coach, some 90 miles away has done a great job in proving, power ball, can still win consistently.
  • Yeah, I want Petrino over Harbaugh too.  He's just a better college coach. [8|][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|]
  • Petrino over Harbaugh???  Thanks for making me spit my coffee out all over my laptop Jabes... [:D]

aren't you one of the people who keep mentioning Sean Payton? since when is cheating on your wife with a 20yo worse then paying someone to injure another human being who could possible get paralyzed or worse if hit the wrong way?
  • GoBlue88, the regents do not want Petrino in Washtenaw, Livingston, Oakland, Wayne, Macomb or Jackson counties let alone AA itself. To which, I fully agree.

Besides, why do you condone adultery ??

I don't condone it but we live in a world where 1/2 of marriages end in divorce anyway and studies have found up to 70% of men have cheated on their wife at least once (maybe not fully but went far enough that they considered it cheating). 70% of people don't hire a hitman to try to Injure someone. I just don't get how people can condemn Petrino like a pariah for something that We have had Past presidents do...  while Considering Sean Payton a good coaching candidate for only committing what some would consider accessory to Premeditated assault & battery.

Bounties in the NFL wasn't something that was only happening in New Orleans!  It's been pretty well documented that the practice of paying players for big hits or taking out opponents had been going on pretty much NFL wide and for quite some time.  The Saints just happened to get caught.

Dude, you need to get off your soap box on this issue.  Assault and battery?  Are you kidding me?  This is the freaking NFL!  They get paid to inflict pain on their opponent!  As I said, this issue wasn't confined to the Saints!  I remember Mike Golic saying it happened in the Eagles locker room back when he played and many other players admitting the same thing.

I think you are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill on this issue...
