Tuesday, June 10, 2014 12:41 PM
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan football head coach Brady Hoke announced today (Tuesday, June 10) the addition of transfer running back Ty Isaac (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) to the Wolverines football program.
Isaac comes to U-M after spending one year at the University of Southern California.
“We’re excited that Ty has decided to join the Michigan Football family,” said Hoke, the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach. “I know it was important for him to get back to the Midwest to be closer to his mom and family, so I think it’s a great fit for everyone. Ty’s a big back with really good speed and catches the ball extremely well out of the backfield. He certainly adds depth and competition to a position we feel very confident about.”
Isaac appeared in all 14 games for the Trojans in 2013, rushing for 236 yards on 40 carries with two touchdowns and hauling in four receptions for 57 yards. Isaac set career highs in rushing yards (87), carries (11) and touchdowns (2) in the 62-28 win at California on Nov. 9. The 6-3, 225-pound running back also saw significant action on special teams during his lone season at USC.
Isaac finished his high school career at Joliet (Ill.) Catholic Academy with a school-record 5,305 rushing yards. Despite missing time due to injury, he rushed for 1,500 yards with 22 touchdowns as a senior in 2012 on his way to earning a spot on the Prep Star All-American Dream Team. As a junior in 2011, Isaac earned USA Today All-USA second-team recognition and Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year and Joliet Herald-News Offensive Player of the Year accolades after posting 2,696 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns, including a 515-yard, six-touchdown performance in the Illinois Class 5A state championship game.
