The Regents vote down Brandon's proposal for a fireworks show after the Ohio and PSU games. Good.

This is something to keep a close eye on. Rumors were swirling even before Schlissel's tenure as president officially began on Monday that he and Brandon were/are not on the same page. The Regents are no longer go to sit back and rubber stamp everything coming out of the AD.

I would have been fine with fireworks for night games but, if there's a choice, would rather not have them! This is Michigan...we don't need stinkin' fireworks

"This is Michigan" isn't really putting butts in the seats these days.  When osu overtakes us in season attendance, this season, they'll wish they had done something to counteract the terrible schedule.

The Meyer hire by O$U was genius. They erased all bad will that came along with their scandal (s). Like it never happened. We never had a chance to take advantage of it. Their program left ours in the dust and we can't seem to get off the canvas.

take it easy with the hyperbole.  michigan stadium STILL puts in 107K+ for EVERY game, as well as set the single game record. . . wait for it. . . THIS PAST YEAR against ND.  as much as I and a bunch of UM fans don't really like all the bells and whistles that brandon is employing, facts are facts.  UM football is and will remain a relatively hot ticket for years to come, barring SEVERAL consecutive catastrophic seasons

The big games will always sell, that's true for everyone around the country. Of course people showed up for ND, students included. It would not surprise me a bit of the actual, butts in the seats attendance dips below 100k several times this year (Michigan like everyone reports on sold attendance).

I personally don't think the bells and whistles have anything to do with the attendance. People don't show up to games for bells and whistles and don't stay away because of a lack of bells and whistles. The reality is that the average consumer has been priced out of attending games by rising ticket, concession, and parking prices. A ticket that was $45 a few years ago is $70 today. Add in a lackluster schedule and piss poor product on the field and you have the situation that we have today.

It's starting to sound like a broken record, but winning cures all.

Alabama is having attendance issues so I wouldn't go that far. There are other factors at play.

and DID the doughnuts get people in the gate?  I doubt it.  just like michfan4life said, people aren't going to be drawn in or annoyed by the bells and whistles to the degree that it affects actual attendance.  and like I said, I don't really care for all of them myself.  there are other factors which are creating panic at UM (and other places) for fear of a possible steady decline

I think the regents are alreAdy concerned about the backlash over the street side jumbotron and don't wAnt any more attention of creating noise and distractions

This vote perfectly shows what is wrong with Michigan right now. Did you read some of the commits by the regents? To them Michigan football is above fireworks-what?! They think they fireworks will some how tarnish the image if Michigan football. Give me a break. They wanted FIREWORKS. I guess the 4th of July fireworks some how take away from the Declaration of Independence too.

These are probably the same people who would like us all to sit and not make too much noise. Have some fun people.

I thought the doughnuts was a plan for this coming year.

Here's some things that aren't hyperbole:

- Michigan's waiting list for season tickets just 6 seasons ago was decades long. That waiting list now? Zero.
- As explained in a previous thread, the cost for me to attend the exact same Ohio State game in 2013 was over 500% more than in 1995.
- This season's schedule is doing the attendance figures no favors.
- Promises were made to end zone season ticket holders that no seat licenses would have to be paid.  Last year, all end zone season ticket holders got hit with seat license fees.
- I have never received the blast of e-mails in the past 6 months like I have this season. Family packs with hot dogs and T-shirts, offers for ADDITIONAL season tickets, mini-season packages, fireworks, etc.... all tactics to sell tickets when you can't sell tickets.

I've said it before- something is going to start hitting the fan if this keeps up, but DB has priced the average Joe out of the football experience and turned this into a corporate money grabbing operation; and it's hurting at the gate. I think it's going to take a game with attendance below 100,000 before something really happens, and if you can't see the way this is trending, then you're not looking closely enough.
Every day you get up for work, just remember that we are all Dave Brandon's hoes.

Put it this way. I have season tickets to the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball (usually repping my Tigers gear) and they do Fireworks after Friday night games... So I leave in the 7th because they block off the streets by the 9th for safety purposes. It's a headache, they're annoying, and I wouldn't stick around back at UM after paying a fortune for my football ticket.. New Years and the 4th, and I'm set on Fireworks.
