The Wolverines announced Thursday that defensive tackle Kenny Wilkins, tight end Nate Allspach and safety Andrew Offerdahl will not return next season. Wilkins and Allspach were sophomores last year, while Offerdahl was a freshman.

Ricardo Miller also, which was expected.

Good luck to all.

I hope Michigan isn't taking away scholarships from non-productive players.  That is something that was never done at UM unless just recently. Does anyone know if and how long this practice has been going on?  If true, we're no better than anyone else.

I can't tell if you're joking or not. Wilkins and Miller were the only two of these four who were even on scholarship, and they never, ever played. Does Hoke really remind anybody of Nick Saban in the way he runs the Michigan program? These guys weren't "processed," they're just leaving because their football careers are over. Go take a look at the 2010 recruiting class. It's the worst class I've ever seen. Over 50% of that class is gone now, because, shockingly, the vast majority of the players Rodriguez recruited aren't cut out for Big Ten football.

From the 2010 class:
2 studs: Gardner and Ryan
3 productive players so far: Black, Avery, and Dileo
2 Special teams guys so far: MRob and Furman
4 others still on the roster: J. Jackson, Ash, Paskorz, and Hagerup (I don't know how he hasn't been kicked off yet)
and 16 guys who either never made it to AA or have left since.

16 of 27 have not produced AT ALL at Michigan. Only 5 have seen even above adequate minutes on the field. That, right there, is why Hoke and Co. have hit the trail so hard. The 2010 class should be our 4th yeah players for 2013 (the core of the team), and we only have 11 left on the roster. Embarrassing.

What a disappointment with Miller. I expected him to do big things here.

These guys were recruited for an entirely different system.  Is it really that shocking?  They were RSFR/SO when Hoke took over.  Most of these guys were never going to sniff the field.  I'm not saying this was a great class, because it wasn't.  But at least put it in perspective.  How many 2007 recruits were still on the team by 2010?  Exactly.

I called out the 2010 class back then on this board and was chastised for it. I was told by the spread gurus that I would eat crow in 3+ years. Well it is now 3+ years. I'm going to brag and say I was right.

2007 Class:
Babb (3-star, kicked off team in 2008)
Chambers (3-star, left team midseason 2008)
Clemons (4-star, transfered to Colorado in 2009)
Evans (2-star, transfered to Hampton in 2008)
Helmuth (3-star, played 2 seasons and transfered to Miami (OH))
Hemingway (4-star, played in 30+ games and arguably the best WR)
Herron (3-star, backup LB, started senior year)
Horn (3-star, transfered to Reedley College in 2009)
Huyge (3-star, started 2 years on the OL)
Mallett (5-star, transfered to Arkansas in 2008)
Molk (3-star, All-American center)
Panter (4-star, JC transfer, played 2 years)
Rogers (3-star, played CB and WR, not an impact player)
Sagesse (3-star, solid backup DL)
RVB (4-star, 2yr starter, solid player)
Warren (5-star, started 3yrs at CB)
Watson (3-star, backup)
Webb (4-star, played 4yrs, never impact player)
Williams (4-star, played 20 games before head injury stopped his career)
Woolfolk (3-star, solid CB and S)

Only 5 players (RVB, Huyge, Woolfolk, Molk and Hemingway) started in 2010. The lack of depth in that class was the reason we needed to start 2 walkons on D and why we have leaned on underclassmen so much.

This class was rated 12th in the country and 1st in the B10. Why weren't these guys starting instead of FR this year? 2008 had a class that ranked 10th in the country and 2nd in the B10, yet where are those players?

A good coach can take the talent he has and turn them into winners. Rich Rod could take top 20 talent and finish with a losing record in the B10 every year. Even with the extra practice he could not do his job.

Go Blue!!

Just go look at the star rankings of that 2010 class. Yes, I know, stars are not the end all be all in recruiting. Plenty of 5 stars have been busts, and plenty of 3 stars have turned into All-Americans. However. As a general rule, the more 4 and 5 star kids you have the better you are. RR's classes were mostly made up of 3 star kids with a few 4 and maybe a 5 sprinkled in. Hoke's classes are mostly made up of 4 star kids with a healthy helping of 5 stars and a few 3 stars sprinkled in. There is a difference.

When you look at the talent level has had to work with his first two years you should be even more impressed, and very excited about the future once big time talent returns to Ann Arbor.

March 14th, 2013 - Day 798 since the firing of Rich Rodriguez and we are still unable to go 10 posts into a thread without mentioning him.

More like Day 798 since the firing of Rich Rod and we are still recovering from the debacle.

The 2005 class is the single worse we've had IMO. When the best player ends up being the punter you know you've done poorly. Most of the guys in that class didn't make it past year 2.

We still have warm bodies from the 2010 class.

Nope, not mad...just disappointed. We post threads calling RR out for not moving on, and here you guys are not moving on either. Just sad.

You mean the class that should have been RR's first senior class (or redshirt juniors)? Got about as much production from that class as the 2010 class. Manningham, Taylor, and Mesko are the only real standouts. Moosman, Harrison, and Ortmann are the only other players off that class that I can readily identify for actually being semi contributors. Can identify Slocum and Sears for all the wrong reasons.

Honestly, 2004 was the last recruiting class that really ended up paying off. Looking back through all these recruiting classes and how little they produced, it is hard for me to single any specific class from 2005 on as the single worst class. What is sad is that the 2009 class seems to be the best class we have had since 2004.
