Why are 40 yard times not always reported?

I have been following the recruiting process fairly closely this year. Size is always an important factor for any potential recruit, and so is speed. Why is it that times for the 40 yard run are not usually reported for most of the kids? Surely they've been to camps/visits/etc. and their times were reliably taken. Wouldn't knowing these times help to differentiate between athletes (especially at skill positions)?

Most listed 40 times are BS. Every skill kid says they run a sub 4.6 forty. 90% are lying and/or reporting a hand timed 40 which is VERY unreliable. I tend to buy track times (especially in a state or regional meet where electronic timing is used) a lot more than 40 times.

Plus, some of these "timed" 40's that are ran by football players are inflated by the fact that they dont start the clock until the kid is out of the blocks, vs track times which are started immediately following the starting cap. (yes, ive witnessed this before)
Michigan vs tsiO rivalry: 58 wins, 36 losses, 6 ties, & 9 CHEATS Hoke: 1-1 Urban 1-1 vs. UM
