My 5-year old daughter says she's voting for Mitt Romney because it sounds like mommy...how do you argue with that. :)

      Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.

More thought put into that vote than most registered voters put into theirs.

Good job, Colorado and Washington.  That's meaningful change, but we''ll see what Barry's Justice Dept has to say.

Some very interesting discussions tonight about demographics and the changing electorate. Conservatives have a lot to work out when it comes to their platforrm and who it appeals/relates to. If it leads to the ouster of social conservatives from power the GOP and the country will be better for it IMO.

What people don't realize is that with the demographic changes in the U.S. we are not a center right country anymore...it only seems like it because Democrats don't turnout for the midterm elections.

Called it. I tried to tell the Republicans that they couldn't win without Ron Paul. On the surface it doesn't seem so because the Libertarian Party did not effect any of the key battle ground states. However if you count the Ron Paul write ins which there isn't a count for that I know of. Plus the number of Blue Republicans (Democrats that would have voted for Ron Paul, but likely supported Obama) and not too mention the enormous grass roots efforts that the Ron Paul supporters employ this election would have easily been won by Ron Paul.

                              The Republicans will never learn.

                                Let the hate flow!!!!!

It extends beyond just ideology, though that clearly plays the biggest role. The visual contrast alone between the two "victory" ballrooms was stark. They won't like to hear it, mostly because they think it doesn't/shouldn't matter but the GOP is going to have to diversify or they`ll keep getting drubbed. The base of supporters for the "traditional" GOP is shrinking. It's 2012, your base can't be overwhelmingly made up of white, male conservatives. That is not a rapidly growing population. Heard a GOP strategist talking about the GOP's "Latino problem" and I think there is a lot of merit to that. The GOP got crushed when it came to the Latino vote, they continue to get crushed among African Americans, and women strongly favored Democratic candidates as well.

The issue though, the party is going to have to change bedrock pillars of their platform in order to appeal to a wider base. Rush Limbaugh predicted that an Obama win would mean the end of the GOP, he just may be right (think he and those like him are part of the problem though). There are plenty of conservative ideas  that have a lot of traction and resonate with people (smaller government, less spending, etc) but those things get drowned out by the nonsense that surrounds the party and the shrinking base.

The GOP is in strong need of a pre-Reagan cleansing.

I don't know that moving to left on social issues is any better formula for success. I can't speak for anyone else but I am no more likely to vote for a republican candidate based on a sudden left turn on social issues. My advice would be for conservatives to drop most of the social issues from their party's platform and stick to the lean fat. If you are for less government what the hell are you doing banging on the drum for increased regulation of marriage, women's health, and "moral" subjects to begin with?

Now on immigration there is going to have to be some soul searching. Fighting the Dream Act was one of the most deplorable decisions the GOP has ever made. It along with other hard line stances that alienate people cost the GOP its ability to connect with the fastest growing population in this country.
