Judgement Day for the Big 10 - Wednesday, September 03, 2014 4:03 PM

Michigan St. @ Oregon
Michigan @ Notre Dame
Ohio State vs. Va Tech

Since Wisconsin sh*t the bed after being up 3 scores against LSU a week ago these games on Saturday are basically the last chance for the conference to gain national respect until bowl season. There aren't an major OOC games on anyone's schedule down the road so this is it.

I'm not sure about O$U. Last weeks performance gets them a loss. But they might bounce back.

If the Big 10 could win all 3, that would be epic. Conference needs it. Winning in Eugene is gonna be tough for Sparty. If there defense is like last years, they have a good chance. Hit Oregon early, hit them hard, and keep hitting them. They will roll over.

Michigan over ND
Oregon over M$U
VaTech over O$U

Go Blue!!

I will be VERY surprised if Sparty wins in Eugene. Less surprised if Michigan wins at ND and not surprised at all when tOSU beats the Hokies.

Sparty loses big. VaTech chokes in the end after a good game. And we beat ND by 10 with good D.
Good luck RR! Go Hoke! Go Blue!

“We won the game that we could control. We won the Rose Bowl. So that’s the best we can do," Dantonio said. "Everybody has to play the games, that’s why they play them. We beat Georgia a couple years ago, and the perception still exists. You just line up and play games."

Personally I think we're the only Big 10 team that wins this weekend. Va Tech is going to throw the kitchen sink at JT Barrett and OSU isn't good enough up front to cover him with the run game. Oregon fits right into Sparty's wheel house, they live to play "finesse" spread teams. I think if they had last year's defense they'd win but they still have some things in the front 7 to figure out.

I guess I should go back and add a "zero wins for the Big 10" option. I think the conference win get one though.

Obviously, I just care about what we do @ Notre Lame...and do believe we will win...but I see Ohio finding a way to beat VTech, unfortunately, & little bro losing @ Oregon!

Only care about Michigan winning.  The sooner people quit obsessing with the national perception of the B1G the better.  Doesn't matter.

OSU will somehow find a way to win in the 4th. Vtech will be able to stop their offense, but I see them having a huge turnover in the 4th.

OSU always pulls one of their asses in these type of games

For the BIG we need to make a statement and win all 3. With the new playoff system in place and a loss by wisconsin last week sure didn't help the BIG with strength .

This could be the year those "out the ass" games don't happen.  Usually they have a Miller or Pryor under center than could have made those plays that made you pull your hair out.

I don't think Barret has that "factor" just yet.

Michigan wins by two scores. I just don't see Gholston making ND so much better than the team we played last year.
Ohio State loses to VT.  That Bud Foster defense is going to be a force and the offense will do just enough to win.
Michigan State rolls Oregon.  Yes they are that good.

National perception and quality wins will decide who makes the playoff and who doesn't. The state of the conference overall very much matters. A one loss Big 10 team has almost zero chance of making the playoff because of how terrible the conference is. Any Big 10 team that does make it without having played quality opponents will certainly be at a disadvantage vs. a team that has run a gauntlet.

As much as I could give a rat's a$$ about the rest of the conference, MichFan is 100% correct. With the college football playoffs starting this season and the fact that there are 5 power conferences playing for 4 spots, perception DOES matter.

First things first: Michigan and tOSU both win. I can say that with 98% confidence.

As far as MSU goes, the game is winnable, I just don't think it's going to happen given the venue. Here's a quick look at Oregon's home games over the past three seasons:

2011
Nevada - Won by 49
Missouri St - Won by 49
Cal - Won by 28
Arizona St. - Won by 14
Washington St .- Won by 15
USC - lost by 3
Oregon State - Won by 28

2012
Arkansas St. - Won by 23
Fresno St. - Won by 17
Tennessee Tech - Won by 49
Arizona - Won by 49
Washington - Won by 31
Colorado - Won by 56
Stanford - Lost by 3

2013
Nicholls St. - Won by 63
Tennessee - Won by 45
California - Won by 39
Washington St. - Won by 24
UCLA - Won by 28
Utah - Won by 23
Oregon St. - Won by 1

2014
South Dakota - Won by 49

Needless to say, the Ducks don't just beat people at home; they bury them. The good news for MSU is that they've lost two close games to USC in 2011 and Stanford in 2012; and I think MSU is comparable to both of those squads.  Still, I don't like this matchup for the Spartans, so I'm putting this one down as a double digit loss.

and for about the thousandth time, I'll start caring about the national perception of the B1G when Michigan actually starts competing for a championship in it.  Deal with it.  The B1G is down right now, and we still can't win it.  Let's work on that before coddling the rest of the teams in the league.

I hope M$U gets the doors blown off them in Eugene.

I am so f*ckin sick of hearing about them and how great they are. Carrying the torch of the Big 10? F*ck that!

One Rose Bowl appearance and win in FOREVER and all of sudden the national media is swinging on their nuts.

I hope they get embarrassed!

I pray they get steamrolled!

Do I have sour grapes? You bet your ass I do.

I would love to see a score like 42-10.

Blow me Sparty!

Go Blue!!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the B1G goes 0-3 today.

I will be shocked if they go 3-0.

My prediction 1-2 with pO$U getting the win over Va Tech. I think MSU is good enough to beat the Ducks in East Lansing, not in Eugene. As for my beloved Wolverines: I have a really good feeling about todays game but until they prove they can, I just can't pick them to win a big game on the road.
