2 point conversion last year...... - Saturday, August 16, 2014 11:55 PM

Honestly, I haven't watched a replay or highlights from The Game last year since it finished.  But I saw this GIF today and something caught my eye:

Why was there no penalty called on that last play?  There were two on Gardner IMO.  Not only is he killed by a late hit, but it's a blow the head as well from what I can see.

I hate bringing up old stuff, but I was just surprised there was no flag on that play.

If Gardner wasn't playing on one leg he could have cut that play right up the middle and walked into the end zone.  Ugh.  As far as a penalty goes, no ref has the 'nads to call anything on the last play of the game.  Anything short of attempted murder goes unnoticed.

just playing devil's advocate, the GIF is relatively slow-mo, so it only appears that the defender got a late hit

so that miller and hyde could have ran the QB read each play and be guaranteed to score every OT period against an already gassed DL, which was getting consistently gashed? please

save us the (months old) monday morning quarterback BS.  great call by hoke, which showed us he has ba***, and actually played to win.  just didn't work out for us

Not a fan of Hoke but that was the right call.  You get one chance to win a game like that, you take it.

I had never seen a replay of that until now, you're right TK, if Gardner doesn't have a broken foot he cuts up the middle and probably shakes that LB for the conversion.

My dad was sitting next to me at this game and I told him when we got the ball that if we scored, we should go for two. He still disagrees with me to this day, and I still think it was the right call.

Also, based on the way the defense was playing and the fact there were 30 seconds left, I still maintain that tOSU would have gone down the field and kicked the game winning field goal anyway....
Every day you get up for work, just remember that we are all Dave Brandon's hoes.

agreed, unfortunately.  that's why it made even more sense to try for 2,  because OSU would have tried to score a FG and win it in regulation either way

^^^This is a point that often gets overlooked.

When Michigan got to about the 30, I said Hoke's going to go for 2 (trying to create a memorable UM/OSU moment) and miss. The friends I was watching with disagreed when I said that.

It was a terrible call. It was even worse when they allowed OSU to call a timeout and then came out in the same play/formation.

Now that's the overlooked part! The dam TO! Can't call one all season when we need one, then when he does finally call one, its the worst ONE EVER!

Everybody chatting live on this board that game, we ALL knew after he called a TO we were done for. (Even BHF)

You seem to be in the minority here, so why was it a terrible call? Are you referring to going for 2 OR the actual 2pt play call by Borges OR both?

Go Blue!!

Jsj I was at the game so I wasn't live chatting. And no, I believed we were going to make the conversion, the stadium was electric. From where I was I didn't even know Gardner was playing on a bum foot.

he's referring to the fact that when initially UM lined up for 2, OSU called a timeout, and then UM came out of the timeout with the exact same formation.  borges/hoke didn't change up the formation/playcall, and OSU was ready for it.  THAT, was ridiculous

the decision to go for 2 was a great one, even though it didn't work out
