If we lose to APP ST - Friday, August 01, 2014 11:17 PM

Could you imagine what would happened to the fan base if we lose to app state again?  I know this team is what got Carr to retire at years end and I'm hoping this team will be a new beginning for our team to move forward and start winning Big Ten titles. I pray we don't embarrass ourselves

The fact this even has to be discussed is telling enough about the state of the program, and the fanbase.

I don't care who Appy St. brings with them to the Big House as they don't have a prayer. THIS ISN'T 2007. This is a cupcake game. Appt St. is a sh*tbag 4-8 team and on our worst day this past season we still beat them.

Appy St. finished the season ranked #175 (4-8) against the #183 SOS. They lost to teams like The Citadel, Furman, etc. This is not a good football team. They don't return a good football team. I'm not saying Michigan is a good football team (and they won't have to in order to beat Appy St. by 4+ TDs) but if you erase the name and just look at the facts (IT'S NOT 2007, IT'S 2014), you would laugh at their team and not make yourself look foolish.

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.

Cupcake? Possibly, possibly not.....let's not walk around here like we have even a remotely stable team. Remember, according to Clark this team quit last year. Plus the app st Coaches have been watching nothing but Michigan film for the past few years, dissecting our every flaw and weakness just looking for every possible attack.all they really had to watch is the Akron game from last season to Give this team psyche a chance........its one game, 60 mins they can play their hearts out again.......

Do I think we will win, yes, is it remotely possibly their coaching staff can come up with great scheme and build confidence to come play us hard, yes. I can see both camps on this.

And PS if, if, IF (I said if 3 times now) we somehow do lose again, I can't imagine our coaches having jobs afterwards.

And could you imagine if Unicorns flew out my a$$?  Get a freakin' grip people.  I cannot believe you guys would even give their fans the satisfaction of actually worrying about this game.  Get in a closet, lock the door, turn off the lights, and rub your worry beads for the next 28 days.  Just don't bring it here.  Good Lord....

I don't think we will lose either but I really hope that the coaches have our team ready to play. After coming off our 2006 year and into 2007 you would of thought we could of handled App st but turned out otherwise that day. GO BLUE!

Hahaha, nice TK.

Like Scottsdale said this is an awful App State team. We could field some posters from this board and still win.

The 07 team started the likes of Chad Henne, Mike Hart, Mario Manningham and Jake Long among others.  I'm sure they thought this was a cupcake team, too.

Might be worth putting a few samolians on ASU with that line.  It's moving up, so people are betting on UM apparently.  Taking the over (50) may be a safer bet than picking a team with that line.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Appalachian_State_vs._Michigan_football_game

From the article:

Michigan was expected to handily defeat Appalachian State, who entered the game as underdogs.  Las Vegas sports books did not offer a betting line because they believed that it would be a mismatch.  The day before the game, an Associated Press article said that the Mountaineers were "almost certain to lose badly" and "aren't expected to be anything more than sacrificial lambs."

We've been down this road before.  Let's hope that we've learned from past mistakes.  And more importantly, nothing good can come from playing a 1-AA team, other than padding your stats.  You beat them and everyone says, what a cupcake schedule.  You lose to them and it's 2007 all over again.

Once again, that App State team and this one are completely different teams. This App State team will be closer to the Delaware State team we played when RR was here than the 07 App State team.

...We all pitch in & buy TK23Blue a hooker!

Seriously though if we lose Hoke & Company get fired...errrrr quit. We go hire Dana Holgorsen from WVU because he's cutting edge & would never lose to the likes of App St. That hire leads to the most humiliating & embarrassing 3 year stretch in Michigan football history which ultimately leads to Holgorsen's ouster. We fail miserably to hire the coach we truly need & deserve because our AD & Kirk Herbstreit are asshats & out of desperation we hire a career .500 MAC coach who says awesome things like "I'd have rode my Segway clear from Norway & taken this job for a handful of magic beans." But who in reality cannot coach his way out of a wet paper sack & in Aug 2021 we're all having a debate on UMGoBlue.com about what happens if we lose the opener to Appalachian State again...I swear it's like you guys don't pay attention at all sometimes!

Does anybody think that this current app st team could beat last years Akron or UConn team? Just a question , since were the almighty unbeatable unsinkable Michigan ship!

Were not a powerhouse program, as much as we make u all laugh, I laugh equally back at u in response. We got lucky to beat inferior of teams as app st last season and now were this magical powerhouse of a team? U do remember this team QUIT las season right? And hasn't played a game since.......

Haha, sure did! Hey, did I pay up????

I still think were going to win, just think this cocky arrogance is funny. Who the hell do we think we are, bama? Lol

As far as I am concerned were a mid tier team that was lucky to finish that good last season. (Akron, UConn, PSU, nw) a team that admitted it quit. But hell what would that possibly mean, huh?

Somebody please correct my outlook here, where am I even slightly exaggerating?

You are exaggerating because you think this is the same App State that we played in 07. It's not. As Scottsdale has said over and over again this team won 4 games last year. This game will be over at halftime. Get a grip.

Between Ap State's 2 QB's last year, they rushed for 395 yards. Let's not try to act like these guys are Armanti Edwards.

if I was a player I wouldn't overlook anyone, but I'm not. I'm a fan. So I can overlook anyone I want. From a roster stand pint, we have HUGE talent gap when we face them. From a coaching stand point, I'd like to think we're better.

There's only 3 games I'm worried about or concerned about. ND, MSU, and OSU. All the other games we have the talent to beat them.

if we lose any of the other 9 games, us fans get pissed. Which is why every michigan message board has a super meltdown.

This App. State team would be bludgeoned by last year's Central Michigan team - the same CMU that Michigan beat by 7 touchdowns.

FYI, the fanbase overlooking a game or "disrespecting" an opponent has no outcome on the game.

Riddle me this - the 07 App State team had won back-to-back 1-AA championships, yet the oddsmakers did not offer a betting line because they believed that it would be a total mismatch.  The 13 App State team was 4-8, so why have they been installed as a 35 point underdog?

Bingo.  This game is a joke but I guess there's nothing else to talk about except 2007 and how we over-looked that game and how it was the beginning of the end and blah, blah, blah (and we even get a little video to go along with it).    Put me down as officially over-looking this game.  This is a big fat W and I'm not even sure why we're playing the game to begin with and hell, I doubt I'll even watch it.  I just hope a fan like me over-looking this game doesn't have a negative impact on the outcome.

I'm thinking two reasons.  Michigan is not a top 5 team like the last time.  In fact, they will be unranked.  And App St is actually in the same division now, and not the sub division the use to be in.  I assume for those reasons alone would be why they actually put a spread on the game.

But for some reason if it does happen, there needs to be wholesale firings at all levels...Brandon, Hoke, the whole damn lot of them.

Wholesale firings and I would also tack on wholesale scholarship pulls.  If these players don't have the drive, determination and intestinal fortitude to pull out a win against this team then make them earn back their schollys or find another home.

Failed 2 pt conversion against OSU
Multiple missed fg's against PSU (it would've ended the game)
Nebraska scores late after huge 4th down pass
Freak Gardner fumble ends the comeback vs Iowa.

Please tell me how I'm wrong. We were 11 pts away from an 11-1 regular season. You keep trying to spin everything to be a negative.

Anyone who brings up that Iowa game in ANY context is being negative. That was about as bad as it gets. Squandering a 2 TD lead pretty much given to them by the defense and all they could muster was 158 yards of total offense. You try and spin that positively, but I would rather not hear about that game ever again.
