I miss Mike, will definitely check it out. I'm pretty sure Brock Mealer still trains with him.

Ive been watching some previews on Discovery.com, looks like it has some potential. You need far out characters for reality tv to work, hes definitely got that peg!

I will check it out for no other reason than to see What Mealer is looking like these days, ya know? He helped inspire my father to get out of his wheelchair too. (And did it)

That voice is definitely acquired! When you scream for a living, your voice tends to take a beating. Every strength guy I know has the same type of raspy voice.

Mike Barwis once made a Happy Meal cry.

Dude's a caricature, so reality tv is probably the right place for him.

If Mike Barwis was gay, he'd be Chuck Norris.

He is absolutely the right guy for reality TV…I might try and take in a couple episodes to see what it’s all about….did I see Richard Sherman in there? haha

I still don't understand what the big hype is behind Barwis.

Is it simply that he's "intense"?

Saw Sherman and Ndonmakong Suh in the clip. Lots of pros work with Mike. Was always cool having them on campus when recruits showed up. Don't think it actually landed us anyone on its own but still pretty cool.

PR people from the AD, RR's people, and probably Barwis' own people when he was here.  Michigan was going to win games with superior conditioning...I guess since superior defensive gameplanning, and overall football fundamentals were already out of the question.

After having Mike Gittleson for 30 years, Barwis was the ultimate breath of fresh air. He's an unconventional guy and a character in the truest sense of the word (thus the TV show). I mean he owns wolves and use to MMA fight. He's the kind of guy that attracts attention.

Well that and he's widely considered one of the best in his field.

I hooked up with a random chick during a trip to Haiti and caught a raging case of Barwis.  Penicillin and a bath in tomato sauce cleared it up.

Yea seriously who wants to be happy for a guy getting his TV show? Screw this Barwis guy. All he's done is help someone he had no responsibility to help and created a positive national story line for the program we root for. Ugh, can we get back to the good stories about our players assaulting people and stuff?

No, that's not "all" he's done. Like 95% of the population, he's done some really good things in his life and most likely some really sh!tty things, which makes him neither great nor terrible. The guy's human. What most of us have a problem with is the PR message that followed him into AA and never seemed to deliver on the field, kinda like his boss at the time.

I don't understand the obsession nor the dislike for this guy.  He's an S&C coach, one of thousands across the country, but one that has a particular flair for PR I suppose.  Really nothing more or nothing less to the story.  I have zero interest in him or his show and I certainly won't be watching it but I don't dislike the guy.  He's just some dude that worked at Michigan once upon a time.

Anyone else watch it? I enjoyed it a little bit, cool to see Molk and Martin in there quite a bit. Watching the show made me want to do some reading about Barwis, I found a couple things that I personally didnt know. The first was that after being hired at Michigan, he gutted and completely remodeled the weight room at a cost of $1 mil. Kinda surprised that we had such a crappy weight room that needed that much work. The second thing I read was that he refuses to accept compensation from Michigan Alums that play in the pros.
"He trains them, he says, because the alums are part of the Michigan family, because it's good for the program, and because he wants them to be as good as they can be." This one im not so sure is true or if maybe it was referring to that fact that he didnt charge them while he worked at Michigan, but didnt read anything to prove it to be wrong, give me some input if anyone knows more about it.

While he was at Michigan Mike didn't accept payment from any of the pro's that trained with him. It was great PR for the program to have a group of world class athletes on campus training. I know we purposely walked recruits through where pro's were training on campus and introduced them.

I highly doubt Mike trains guys for free anymore, he still has to pay the bills. The free training to Michigan alums may be true. I know he trained/trains a lot of our guys prior to the NFL combine and team workouts for free.

No kidding, he charges 450 bucks an hour to train you one on one and 100 bucks an hour if one of his trainers is training you. I saw those rates posted in the Free press article.

That's one take. I love the guy myself but then I've never had an issue with loud mouths that back things up on the field. Woodson was a loudmouth, so was Mike Hart. Most fans love their loudmouths but hate those on other teams.

Agreed.

And actually, it holds you a bit more responsible and puts more pressure on yourself to perform when you talk.

Give me 11 douches like Sherman over 11 quiet nice guys that don't play to the same level.
