Derrick Green Bringing the Run Game Back to Ann Arbor - Wednesday, March 12, 2014 8:53 AM

Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier was hired to stabilize the Michigan offense and create a consistent identity for a unit that spent too much time trying to do everything last season and not enough time doing anything well. During spring practice, Nussmeierhas streamlined the offense, emphasizing the running attack much to the delight of running back Derrick Green.
“Michigan is about running the ball, and this unit is going to bring it back,“ said Green, who looks noticeably leaner and says that he is 20 pounds lighter than when he struggled for playing time last year. “I feel a lot faster, stronger; my body feels a lot better than last season.”

Nice to see that it appears Green has put in some work in the off season to get himself in better playing shape. Let's hope that work pays off with on the field results.

He and Smith could be a lethal 1-2 punch for us next season if the o-line comes around...

33% of our running attack per game was from Gardner last season. THAT has to change.

Nice article, Phil. Of course, everything depends on how the OL performs but expect big things from Green AND Smith & great to hear that Green is in better shape this year than last

If We don't hear of him gashing this defense in practice, with our super soft middle, what speaks of that?

I will believe it if our RBs gash the Jolly Green Giants up the Interstate.

Like how FJ is coaching them...it's just a question of the backs learning how to pass block & use their low gravity to "push & drive" on a consistent basis!

Have to wait to have a true evaluation of whether we're improving but looking forward to the fall!

Jackson seems to laugh every time one of the backs either holds or gets smoked...maybe that's part of our problem...haha

I was thinking the same thing too. Was there 1 decent block in the clip? Jeez

the only silver lining I have in response to that is that they have until August to fix it. . .
