Dear Leader blessed us with some quotes today - Monday, January 20, 2014 7:24 PM
0
From Nick Baumgardner of MLive, the Pizza Man speaketh:

Brandon: 'I can't hold Brady Hoke accountable if I'm telling him who to put on the staff.'

Brandon says it's a 'leap of logic' to say he's running the football program. 'It's silly.'

Brandon now says he felt 'silly' having to write a vote of confidence for Brady Hoke. But he says it served its purpose.

Brandon asked by @berniesmilovitz if he was able to meet w/ everyone on his coaching search list when he hired Hoke 'Yes.'

Brandon says there was no one else on his coaching search list that would have swayed him from hiring Hoke.

Brandon asked if MSU's success has put pressure on Michigan: 'Our job isn't to worry about (MSU all season) ...'

Brandon: 'Our job is to worry about Michigan State when we go head to head.'

Brandon says he watched Rose Bowl, pulled for MSU, loved how they played football 'I was proud of them.'

Brandon says Michigan has about $300 million more to raise and spend on facility upgrades

Dave Brandon last week

"I'm a big believer that leaders get to pick their teams, and Brady makes all the decisions as it relates to the people he wants to surround himself with to be successful," Brandon said. "When Brady first called me and identified Doug, my first reaction was 'wow, that would be great, but really?'

So, which is it Brandon...Brady gets to pick who he surrounds himself with OR you can't hold Brady accountable if you're telling him who to put on the staff?

His job isn't to worry about MSU all season??? Maybe he should then try to explain the GO BLUE sky writing he paid for over Spartan Stadium during a game we weren't playing them in???

Those would be the same thing, Scottsdale. Brady does get to pick who he surrounds himself with, that way Brandon can hold him accountable..

When you have to hold an interview stating that you're not running the football program, you're running the football program.

LOL.  That is SO true.  He certainly has no problem trying to be the "face" of the program when we win.  He's always on the sidelines mugging for the camera but now that we're 7-6 it's Hoke's team?  Poor little Davey Brandon.  Bo's lessons were wasted on you.  But hey, go watch film on Sunday's.  I'm sure Hoke enjoys that quiet time with you.

He didn't hold the interview. He was asked questions by the media at an event.

"As I recall there were 14 different criteria that I wanted to rate each of them on," Brandon said. "So I had questions that were designed around all 14 of those points. I would cover all 14 and then I rated them like one through 10. Ten being proven skills, proven experience, high level of proficiency."

Did he realize he was interviewing a football coach...good lord man! I posted this s month ago and now Brandon just confirmed exactly what I said.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, not hiring Harbaugh was a mistake of epic proportions but we are stuck with Hoke.

Harbaugh wanted Brandon to offer him the job, not out him through a comprehensive corporate interview. If your competition offered you a job for more money you would take it. If they wanted to put you through three interviews and a personality test, you would tell them to go pound sand.

Harbaugh thought Brandon would offer him the job and he would take it. Instead Brandon wanted to put him through an interview process. Harbaugh thought it was laughable and so did Miles.

I was pissed when they hired Hoke. 2 of the top 10 coaches in the nation are former Bo players and you can't offer them the f*ckin job. Instead you insult them with the attitude that your big time.

No way Brandon would bow to Harbaugh or Miles given his experiences at Bain capital/dominoes pizza. No way Harbaugh or Miles would let him be this involved in football decisions. He knew Hoke would be pleased as piss to have the job and do whatever Brandon wanted. We will be ok in 2 years but never a national power because of that decision.

If O$U would have done that to Meyer he would have said f*ck you. Instead they courted him.

Go Blue!!

A win for MSU is a win for B1G.  The only downside is when a kid decides to commit to them over us.  I have no issue with what Brandon said.  And I think it's a bit ridiculous to get this upset over it.  Like whiny kids.  "He likes THEM more than US"  Get a grip for f*cks sake.

So when the best player in the state commits to MSU over U-M largely because of MSU's season and Rose Bowl win, will you feel better knowing it's a recruiting victory "for the Big Ten"? If/when Malik McDowell turns into a star for MSU's defense instead of Michigan's because of MSU's Rose Bowl season, will you feel better because he's doing it in the Big Ten and against Michigan as opposed to in the SEC?

McDowell was looking for ANY reason not to come to Michigan.  Even before the season started, he didn't give me any reason to expect him to join this class.  Even if MSU hadn't had the season they had, who's to say he wouldn't have committed to them anyway, or even Ohio State?  I was never convinced MM was ever coming to Michigan; I had much higher hopes for Hand, but we know how that turned out.   Furthermore, recruiting is not Dave Brandon's job, so I don't really see how his comments have anything to do with recruiting Malik McDowell.  As an AD for a B1G school, though, it IS in his best interest to look out for Michigan directly, and the conference indirectly.  I see no issue with him giving MSU props, at this point they certainly deserve it.
