Offensive Coordinator Speculation thread - Wednesday, January 08, 2014 5:05 PM

I`ll waste no more time talking about "he that shall not be named"

3 names I'd look at (not in order)

1. Randy Sanders-former Tennessee & Kentucky OC, currently the QB coach at FSU.

2. Don Treadwell- former Michigan State OC and Miami OH HC. Coached one year with Brady Hoke at Ball State in 2003

3. Tom O'Brien (former HC at Boston College and NC State) who is currently an assistant at Virginia.

I have a whole list of spread guys I like but that ain't going to happen so no use wasting time.

We all need to pray that Hoke doesn't return to his roots and hire Stan Parrish who may be the one OC worse than Al Borges.

If he goes to his roots I would expect Langsdorf given Hoke's connections at Oregon State.

As much as it pains me, I want no part of Scott Loeffler. 2 straight offenses have sucked horribly under his watch, one of which just played for the national title while setting records a year later.

I'm with you on that.
There's really no one with michigan ties that I would want here.

Makes sense to replace Borges with another west coast guy. I`d prefer a Florida guy myself.

Hoke and Parrish didn't leave on good terms so don't expect this reunion anytime soon.

Not possible unless we fire more people. Only allowed 9 assistants on staff, we're currently at 8 after Borges firing. Whoever we hire to OC will also be QB coach ala Borges.

Here's an interesting name. Major Applewhite

Former OC at Texas, likely not going to be retained by Charlie Strong. Former OC under Nick Saban at Alabama and at Rice. QB guy.

I watch a lot of UT games b/c my wife's an alum.  Their offense under Applewhite doesn't exactly set the world on fire.  Lots of great athletes all over the field, the line gets pushed around and the QB is often running for his life.

Why do I feel as though we have the potential to do the same? We cut our dead weight and suddenly make the final 4? Lol would be very telling.

Also, can we just hire the entire coaching staff from Akron? They played us to the wire with much less talent, imagine if they schemed and coached our squad. Might be BIG champs.

You would think that if they are willing to throw $700 or $800k around that they can attract someone good.

Mazzone looks decent.  I like the offenses he ran at UCLA and ASU, but he's another guy in his mid-50s.  Is there a young up-and-comer who really knows what he's doing, want a bump in pay at a big program who will groom some of his assistants?

you can change your signature anytime now, BTW

don treadwell (former MSU OC) is on my shortlist (not that I'm being consulted).  had some great years with kirk cousins.  just got fired as HC of miami-OH.

This comment on bruin nation does not sound very promising.

invested in Mazzone
is exactly right. mora probably gave Mazzone the benefit of doubt last year since the team significantly improved. but this year it should be clear to mora something needs to change. he can easily tell Mazonne, “hey enough of that run up the middle crap, etc.” the head coach can’t bury his head in the sand and let the OC do anything he wants so I say keep Mazzone as I see the investment mora has made especially with recruiting, and mora gives him the simple mandate: “make some changes for the better or find another job”.

Just say NO to Loeffler.  No offense, but what, 4 jobs in 4 years?  He also said Auburn lacked talent last year and that was the problem.  One year later they are in the NC game?

There has to be better options.

I'm going to go WAY off the board here.  How about Frank Reich?

- Familiar with the pro-style offense? Check.
- Able to get more out of quarterbacks (which we need- he is currently the QB coach for Phillip Rivers and the Chargers)? Check.
- Understands all aspects of an offense? Check (Wide receivers coach for the Colts in 2011 and the Cardinals in 2012).
- Possibly ready for a step up from QB coach?  I'd say so.

Just a wacky option to throw out there.....

Wouldn't surprise me if we went after Ryan Day...watching the BC/Zona bowl game, BC seemed to be using Mike DeBord's and Terry Malone's old playbooks
