Saban to Texas is gaining steam in twitter verse even though there's talk of an extension with Alabama. Wonder if he's pulling a les miles and just using Texas to get more $ out of bama

Season tickets sold at Texas soared, from 38,100 in 1998 to a high of 84,500 in 2010. But after a surprising 5-7 record in 2010, season tickets dropped to 81,600 for 2011, then to 78,800 for 2012 and 76,300 for 2013.

Hmmm, that can't be good.

Phil, is your resume ready? 10 years and $100M would certainly upgrade your portfolio from strong to quite strong. Haha

IMO I think Al Borges is the man to lead Texas back to greatness.  I mean name one guy who has been more successful and is more deserving of the chance to make that program what it once was.  Let's go Texas, Al Borges is the man with the plan make that hire!

Alabama coach Nick Saban will replace Mack Brown at Texas and become the Longhorns' next head coach, a reporter from the Fort Worth Telegram posted on Twitter.

"Source close to Texas executive council of regents says Nick Saban will be next Longhorns coach," tweeted Stefan Stevenson, the TCU beat reporter for the Telegram.

However, there are conflicting reports. NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt reported via Twitter that a source told him Saban was in contract negotiations with Alabama for a contract extension that would be in the $7 million-per-year range.

Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that multiple media outlets reported earlier Tuesday that Brown plans to step aside after this season. However, Brown has denied he intends to step down.

Brown will resign in the coming days, "high-level sources" told Orangebloods.com, but the coach later denied the report Tuesday.

"I'm just too damn old to start over somewhere else." -quote from Saban on Tuesday about the Texas job.
Maybe at his introductory press conference he will talk about feeling rejuvenated and excited about the new challenge!

It would take me about 1/4 second to decide whether I should leave Tidecaloosa for Austin. I'd already be talking to movers by now.
Good luck RR! Go Hoke! Go Blue!

I'd rather live in both with the temperature being 3 degrees right now.

Below is just rumors, but interesting one

So some of the latest rumors are that Saban is $20 mil in debt from failed real estate investments, and Texas (or rich Texas boosters) have promised to take care of that debt for Saban.

According to the Baton Rouge Business Insider, one of Saban's investments, a failed retail center called Perkins Rowe, was just paid off/refinanced for an amount of $14 mil this week.

Oh, and Mack Brown will hold a press conference at 10 am this morning. All indications that he will announce his "retirement".

SAN ANTONIO -- Besieged Texas coach Mack Brown said Thursday he has no interest in discussing his job status or campaigning for his job and that he plans to meet with new athletic director Steve Patterson and university president Bill Powers about his future.

Brown, speaking at a Valero Alamo Bowl news conference, insisted nothing has changed.

"There's been a little speculation about my job situation," Brown said. "We're not here to talk about me. My situation has not changed. I have the best president in the country in Bill Powers. He's done a tremendous job. We've lost an iconic athletic director in DeLoss Dodds. He's been my boss for 16 years. We hired what I think is a great athletic director in Steve Patterson.

"Any time the athletic director changes, it changes the game. I will sit down and talk to him and Bill and discuss the direction we're going. I'm looking forward to my meeting with Bill and Steve and then move forward."

AJ McCarron

"I messed with Coach, [saying] he's getting too old to start up again somewhere else," McCarron said on ESPN's "College Football Daily" from Walt Disney World. "He told me he's not leaving. And I know Miss Terry [Saban's wife] well enough; she runs that house. And she's not allowing Coach to leave, either. I think he'll be at the University of Alabama for a little while."

So no press conference today but supposedly will be a meeting held this afternoon between the three aforementioned individuals, according to everyone who's anyone in the Twitter universe.

I love how Saban said it "stunk" that his name was tied to the Texas job. Yeah, it stunk save the extension and raise he leveraged. What an a$$.

No, I just pointed out to them that he did his job correctly each year, it was all simply lack of execution by a bunch of 18-22 year old kids that caused his system to fail.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas athletic director Steve Patterson has appointed an eight-member advisory committee and retained an executive recruiting firm to aid in his search for the Longhorns' next football coach.

Included in the group tasked with finding Mack Brown's successor are two members of the UT System Board of Regents, Steve Hicks and Robert Stillwell, as well as former Regent Robert Rowling. They're joined on the committee by UT professor Michael Clement, U.S. federal judge Ricardo Hinojosa, former Exxon Mobil vice president Charles Matthews, Capital Royalty chairman Charles Tate and Pamela Willeford, former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein and former chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinator Board.
