are there any concerns with his size and playing cornerback?

Yes. I am concerned because the kid is a shrimp and in my opinion will not be able to cover big, tall WR in the B10. Most people don't share my concerns which is fine.
Change of direction and ball skills rule all at the corner position, and he has plenty of both. Even if he was in a jump ball situation he would have a chance against anything that isn't a spot-on thrown because of his athleticism, it's not as easy as hey I'm taller than you so I get to catch the ball. I'm more worried about corners who don't show as much athleticism (Standifers of the world) than guys like Richardson. He's going to be great under a great defensive staff.

I'm with Scottsdale-this guy is an absolute shrimp.  5' 9"- 165?  BUT...you guys obviously raise a great point when you consider where he's getting offers from.  I mean, can you put together a better list than the schools he has going after him?  Jeez.

During Woodson's playing days he had 4 inches and 30 pounds on this kid.  That's a lot.  I dunno-I guess I'll believe it when I see it but for now, he's awfully small.  We need to give him a few years.

We will see I guess. The thing is he's not only short, but he's very thin. Lack of strength and height will definitely make you struggle with jump balls against bigger and/or stronger receivers if it comes down to a 50/50 ball. I'm for one am concerned about his size, vertically and muscularly.

It's not just jump ball situations that are are concern. The kid already has problems tackling guys at the HS level because of how slight his build is. Terry is going to have to live and die in the weight room probably until he's a junior to keep from being a liability.

Kid has a great skillset though and it isn't like 5'9 CBs haven't succeeded before. Antoine Winfield 5'9 180lbs was an All-American and won the Jim Thorpe, Aaron Glenn 5'9 183lbs was a 2 time All-American, Ray Mickens 5'8 180 was a 2 time All-American, Terrell Buckley 5'9 180 was 2 time All-American and won the Jim Thorpe, Leodis McKelvin just made the All-Pro team at 5'10 184lbs.

The precedent exists for guys in the 5'9 180lbs range to succeed but they have to have EXCEPTIONAL skill. Terry's offer list and Jr film certain would suggest that he has an elite skillset. With that said I still wouldn't line him up on a big opposing WR.

Anyone that thinks his size is an end-all issue needs to watch his junior tape at the 3:30 mark. He doesn't have to make contact with bigger receivers, he can play the ball. He'll put 15 solid pounds of muscle on and be capable of tackling, and he'll break on routes quicker than any taller corner not named Darrelle Revis. I'd rather have a smaller corner who is slightly susceptible to a true jump ball than a corner who has no hips and fails to cover breaking routes (cough, Morgan Trent)

I loved his interview. He said all the right things and said he's very serious about his commitment. He wouldn't have committed if he wasn't serious about it.

He also added that he wants to try and add 10-20 lbs this year so he can try and contribute right away.

This defensive class has potential to be number one in the country. If we land Pipkins, Wayne Morgan, Wormley, and one other 4-star DT we will easily have the best defensive class in the country.

Michigan commit Terry Richardson has to deal with size issues as well but evidenced by his earning a ranking as the nation’s No. 3 cornerback on 247Sports, he has quelled any doubts. Richardson was in attendance on Saturday and he met his expectations. He has an ability to seamlessly turn his hips and change direction in coverage and when he has to turn on his burners, he can absolutely accelerate with any receiver. One of the highest rated players in attendance and already committed to his college of choice, Richardson had no reason to show up but he did anyway and put together a terrific performance.

good hips and speed to match........Not the tallest kid, but has some set skills. I love that he didnt need to even show, but did, and showed well!  Good 4 him.

Obviously, love what I'm hearing about how this kid completely makes up for his lack of size with crazy skills. However, I still have a hard time believing it's not a match-up issue when he's lined up against a 6-4, 215 pound WR. The simple physics of it all makes it seem like he won't be able to hold his own. On the flip side, I'm sure all his life he's been the smallest dude and has needed to fine tune the rest of his game to make up for it. Just imagine how nasty he'll be if he grows another 2-3 inches and puts on 20-25 pounds.

Corners are almost always smaller than the receiver they guard. And that in anything but a jump ball it's advantage T-Rich, because he can break on a ball faster than any 6'+ receiver. He's most likely not going to get much taller, and he might put 15 pounds on. The size issue needs to be put to rest, the kid can flat out ball.

We'd be foolish to line him up on a 6'4 210lbs WR.

Exactly. It's just not going to happen. If our coaches put our kids in a position to fail, then they are not doing their job and will lose that job.
