Man, college football is looking more and more like the NFL as time goes on.

It doesn't seem that long ago that you had the likes of Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, Bo Schembechler, Woody Hayes and Bear Bryant prowling the sidelines. When you named one of these schools (as well as many others), the first face that popped in your head was the head football coach.  That's a distant memory now.  With the removal of Mack Brown, there are now only four head coaches in Division I-A that were hired prior to 2000.  They are:

Frank Beamer (1987) - Virginia Tech Hokies
Larry Blakeney (1991) - Troy Trojans- although they haven't been Division I that entire time
Kirk Ferentz (1999) - Iowa Hawkeyes
Bob Stoops (1999) - Oklahoma Sooners

In fact, 94 schools in Division I-A will have a head coach that enters this season in their 5th year or less with their respective school. Heck, Brady Hoke has made his way into the top 5 already in the Big Ten with respect to tenure.  If this isn't an indicator that it's all about the $$$ anymore, then nothing is.

Here are the records and winning % of the four tenured coaches with their current teams. I was surprised that only Bob Stoops is over 70%:

Frank Beamer              209–98–2 (.680)
Larry Blakeney            175-104-1 (.625)
Kirk Ferentz                 108-79 (.576)
Bob Stoops                  160–39 (.804)

Stoops is a good winner but somehow it seems he knows how to lose the BIG Games.  Not this year though.

2000 is 14 years ago now.  I think the vast majority of teams at any time would have turned coaches over at least once every 14 years.
