So, we are going into the season with Green and Smith as our main backs, Hayes as our 3rd down back and Drake Johnson coming off an ACL injury. That's a little thin for for my liking...

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.

I mean, that's 4 backs. 3 if Hays ever does that rumored move to slot WR. But I think that's fine.

So now we have spots open for 17-18 range in the 2014 class? Glad Rawls got his degree, and I hope he succeeds at CMu.

With Ash and Furman leaving, there are now seven members of the 27-man 2010 class that will finish their careers in Ann Arbor (assuming Hagerup doesn't screw up between now and the end of next season).

Seven. Out of 27.

And here I remember when 4 kids leaving caused mass panic, front page news stories, and predictions of doom and gloom. The attrition rate under Hoke has been relatively high. The highest we've had in decades probably.

I wish Thomas and the others nothing but success.

I need to do some research but I would be willing to guess that attrition in CFB is at an all time in the last 5 years. Head coaches and assistants are always on the move and there's no stability at these schools. We had 3 coaches in 4 years so there's bound to be some attrition and the fallout just continues.

Also, today's high school kids have no loyalty, want instant gratification and are looking for the best pace to get them to the next level and they don't care if that's Bama or Florida or Iowa, etc.

Go Blue!!

Usually transfers happened when the kids are having little impact in the program. People who freak about transfers need to realize that it was probably in the best interest of both the player and the program. The Ryan Mallets and Gunner Kiel's of the transfer world are rare.

Rawls got a raw deal in AA, he deserved more playing time. Unlike most of this team he appeared to have a real passion for the game, he ran hard, & unlike Fitz he ran straight ahead. I wish him well.

In all honesty, if you get hits on 50% of a recruiting class you're doing pretty good (not that high attrition is a good thing) There's a reason you never see an entire class on senior day 4yrs later. Getting 10 TRUE, contributors out of each class, not counting freshman, is par for the course. That's 30 players in a 3yr period. You still need depth guys, and guys you are developing, but having 10 guys drop out of 25-28 man class over a period of years is not that unexpected. There always exceptions, sometimes you get 15 starters out of a single class. The real issue is when you string several of these types of classes together.

There was an exceptional flameout rate with the 2010 class though. Much like the 2005 class. Interestingly, both classes were ranked relatively high on signing day.

Like MichFan says, it happens all over.

35 of Auburn's 84 signees from 2006-08 left the team (42%) and then Chiznik lost 7 of his 28 signees from 2009 class before they even hit campus due to qualifying issues!

Florida lost 25 players from it's 2008 class and 23 players from 08-10 classes left (23 of 66 or 35%).

For the 2008 classes Alabama lost 15 of 32 (47%), Georgia 12 of 24 (50%) and LSU 11 of 26 (42%).

That's just a couple examples I found...

I still had high hopes for Rawls, I still think hes got tons of potential, and I hope he lights it up at CMu.

I never understood people being enamored with Rawls. What made anyone think he was good? Fred Jackson compared him to Ingram, big deal. If Jackson signed me he'd probably say I was the next Mike Alstott.

Caught off-guard by this...always thought he would be a stud RB at U-M. Not sure why it didn't work out but wish Rawls the best of luck at CMU!
