This guy made AJ McCarron an NFL early round draft prospect (expected)... that's pretty stout.

The thing with Nussmeier is, he's a mercenary. Hasn't coached in one place longer than 3yrs and at 46 this is surely not his last stop. Good coach, just don't get attached.

This is a good get.  Saban is contemplating a hurry up/spread offense and Nussmeier wouldn't fit that bill so if there's ANY discussion of him getting fired, it's for that reason.  The guy can coach and let's face it, any guy that can teach Jake Locker to throw a football and has showered with Nick Saban is good enough for me.  Be happy.

You've been on lately.  Good job.

Agree, but sort of to Maize927's point, is there any chance that Brandon went after a guy like Nussmeier--and Nussmeier would agree to a lateral move--because he gets first crack at the HC job if Brady continues to sh!t the bed?  Not sure how you could arrange that without Hoke knowing, but it seems weird that he'd take a lateral move to go from a NC-caliber program to a middling program even if it means some extra scratch.  Maybe Saban is going spread.  Who knows.  For the time being, it's a GREAT hire.  Nussmeier was Drew Stanton's QB coach at MSU, huh?  Not a bad guy to get Devin straight, I'd say.

I was thinking along the same lines.  I'm good with that if it's true as well.

If Nussimier does his job Hoke keeps his, if he doesn't Hoke gets fired. I can't imagine a scenario where Nussimier succeeds and Hoke doesn't keep his job.

Exactly, these two will go hand in hand.  Win and they both stay where they are...lose and they are both gone I would think.

I am not so sure they both stay if they are winning. Nussimier will likely be at Michigan for a very limited time. The guy is very young and will likely have teams calling for him to be their head coach.

None of the good ones stay anywhere very long.  I'd rather have everybody after my coach than nobody interested in my coach.  Hoke isn't exactly young so I could see a scenario where he'd be gone and Nussmeier could be the HC.

Hoke's rhetoric about Big Ten-title-or-bust and Team OneThirtySomething rings hollow until his teams start showing they can live up to Michigan's storied past. Rivals Ohio State and Michigan State have bypassed Michigan, and 2014 is pivotal for Hoke and the Wolverines, who enter the same division as the Buckeyes. They need to go for it now, and the Nussmeier hire is a good sign that they are.

So many good things written in this article and it pretty much sums everything up for me.

I'll wait to get really excited once it's officially announced. I'm not going to get les miles 2008 excited until things are official.

Funny story is that my wife actually broke the news of Borges' firing yesterday!

I was at swim practice when she texted me the headline and I nearly jumped out of the natatorium!

And now this news that his replacement is Alabama's former OC? Holy hell!!! I've been so used to getting kicked in the gut from news surrounding this football program, it is real refreshing to wake up to this fantastic news!!!

Nuss is 43, not 46.

If Hoke turns things around, I don't see Nuss being around when Hoke steps down...

I do agree though that I too would rather have a coach everyone is after than one like the dead weight we just got rid of...

Interesting in that article you linked that it mentioned Kiffin could be Nuss' replacement? Personally, I wasn't too excited to hear Kiffin's name as a possible replacement for Borges. I'll take Nuss over Kiffin...

One more thing, how refreshing is it to have an OC that actually has proven himself as IMPROVING the qb's he's coached over his career!!!

Also, what kind of recruiter is Nuss? I can't imagine it will hurt to have him going into houses of perspective recruits with his NC ring he won coaching with Saban at Bama...

If Mattison and Nussmeier fail, Hoke will fail and everyone is out.

What if the failings of this team come from the defensive side of the football and offensively, things improve greatly, but not enough to overcome defensive failures and Brandon finally had enough of Hoke? Could Nuss be a viable candidate to replace Hoke in that scenario?

I think that depends on the success of Nuss here. If Nuss gets the offense firing on all cylinders and the defense fails, the Nuss hire will likely earn Hoke enough clout to change DCs....if the offense is just good to okay, and the defense is bad...Hoke should be shown the door.
