Pretty darn happy right now. Welcome Nussie. Now, go get Bostad and fix this OL.

Updated: Michigan makes OC switch, fires Borges, hires Nussmeier
Posted by Kevin McGuire on January 8, 2014, 9:53 PM EST
APA return to a more traditional style offensive system following the graduation of Denard Robinson failed to yield quite the results expected out of Michigan this past season. The Wolverines dropped from eighth in the Big Ten in total offense in 2012 to 10th in 2013 after ranking third in total offense in the conference in 2011. Today Michigan took a step in shaking things up on offense by removing offensive coordinator Al Borges. He has already been replaced by Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, according to reports.
Michigan head coach Brady Hoke brought Borges with him from San Diego State, where he served the same role under Hoke. According to a report by Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com, Michigan acted quickly to hire Nussmeier from Alabama. Hoke and Michigan AD Dave Brandon made a big push to pluck Nussmeier away from Alabama and committed to make him one of the five highest paid assistant coaches in the country.
“Decisions like these are never easy,” said Hoke in a statement released by Michigan. “I have a great amount of respect for Al as a football coach and, more importantly, as a person. I appreciate everything he has done for Michigan Football for the past three seasons.”
Michigan actually saw their average per game scoring increase marginally in 2013 from 2012 by about three points, but struggles to consistently move the football and capitalize on some opportunities eventually caught up with Michigan with fewer yards per game. Michigan ended the year with a 7-6 record.
The pressure should start to be mounting on Hoke though. After three years on the job Hoke has seen his win total decrease each of the past two seasons after an 11-2 debut in Ann Arbor. With the roster more and more becoming his responsibility, Hoke will start to lose options before really starting to feel the heat if things do not turn around soon for the Wolverines.

Never saw that coming  but I'll take it

Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will become the new Michigan offensive coordinator, a source told CBS Wednesday. The move was driven by a strong recruiting effort by coach Brady Hoke and Wolverines AD Dave Brandon that included a robust financial commitment to Nussmeier, who now will be among the five highest-paid coordinators in college football, according to the source.

Impressed. Went out and got arguably the best pro style OC out there....and stole him from a perennial title contender to boot.

Is there going to be any $$$ left to pay for a good Oline coach. If Nussmeier is getting top 5 five money that will put him in the $1 million range!

On January 18, 2012, Nussmeier was announced as the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide,[5][6] replacing outgoing coordinator Jim McElwain.[7] Under his guidance, junior quarterback A. J. McCarron set the school record for touchdowns in a season with 26.[8] McCarron threw an additional four touchdowns in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game againstNotre Dame in a 42–14 victory,[9] which allowed McCarron to set another school record for career touchdown passes.[10] In 2014 he was hired by Michigan to try and save Hoke's job. Because he was once the OC at the great program called Alabama, many Michigan fans quickly thought he was the best OC in the country even though he was about to get fired and replaced by Lane Kiffin. Michigan unfortunately still sucks.

This is a good get.  Saban is contemplating a hurry up/spread offense and Nussmeier wouldn't fit that bill so if there's ANY discussion of him getting fired, it's for that reason.  The guy can coach and let's face it, any guy that can teach Jake Locker to throw a football and has showered with Nick Saban is good enough for me.  Be happy.

I love the hire...but next season the results need to come. Brandon went out and got Hoke arguably the best OC (for pro style) that money can buy, next year the youth excuse won't be there, and you can't blame the former coach as nearly every player will be a Hoke recruit. Time to step up or step out.

Hoke will stay out of the offense and let him do his thing. I bet he's even better at Michigan.

Hoke stays out of the offense, out of the defense, and out of the special teams.  He has no business being our head coach.
