Two weeks into spring practice, Michigan coach Brady Hoke says things have improved. But there's still a long way to go.

"We're going full speed, and the one way you stay healthy going full speed is to play with great technique," Hoke said last week. "The physicalness isn't where we want it yet. I couldn't point out one guy who has been a great finisher.

"Probably Graham (Glasgow), as much as anybody, in some ways. Ben (Braden) is getting better. But we're not near where we need to be. And I think (offensive line coach) Darrell (Funk) would tell you the same thing."

"The (competition) is healthy, it's what it should be," Hoke said. "Jack Miller is floating in there a little bit at left guard with Bosch, having Mags out hurts a little bit at tackle. But we really like what we see athletic-wise from David Dawson. Body-wise, he can play both (tackle and guard).

"And, Mason Cole coming in (early) has been big for us."

As much as our OL needs to be a unit of 5 by the end of spring so they can work together all summer and in fall camp…I just don’t see that happening. And not because Mags is out with an injury, but there really isn’t any position that someone has a solid hold on. You know what they say when 2 QBs are named the starter...you don't have a QB. Same thing with our OL unfortunately...

But right now, the three players battling to fill Lewan's shows are redshirt freshmen David Dawson and Logan Tuley-Tillman and Mason Cole, a freshman early enrollee. Cole has impressed his coaches and has an excellent chance of at least making the rotation. But the fact that a guy who should be a high school senior right now is getting so many reps at the most important offensive line position speaks volumes.

Mason Cole supposedly running with the first group doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies about how our line has progressed. He shouldn't be CLOSE to being able to see the field.

Yeah let's give Mason Cole and Freddy Canteen the spring hype of the year award!

Canteen's hype I don't see as a bad sign. We didn't bother to sign any actual slots in the past 3 years so it figures that he would rise to the top of the pile.

We've signed 10 linemen between the 2012 and 2013 classes though.
