where's TheGirl?  I feel like I'm taking over her yearly tradition. . .

I know it's been pretty crappy the last several years, but the upcoming season isn't that far away, and whether we support hoke or not, i know for a fact that we're all gonna be tuned in when UM takes on appy state

I thought she started at 99 since UM doesn't have a 100.

At any rate, right now, we are just under 50 full days from kickoff.

It's funny, I haven't even thought about it until right now.  Wake me when it's 3 days to go. ;)

Usually I am more excited for the start of the season.....this year it just isn't there. I am more looking forward to the NFL season....and considering my Cards play one of the toughest schedules in the entire league (11 games against teams that were in the playoffs in at least 1 of the last 2 seasons) that is saying something.

Hello Gentlemen.
I'm around, just not as active on here as I was. Apparently, I was "to blame" by doing the countdown as to how the team performed ~ go figure ~ which, as we all know, has zero influence on game play.

To keep you up to speed, I've changed jobs - I'm no longer in healthcare, I'm now working for a large telecommunications/cellular phone company so my schedule has been all over the place. I continue volunteering at the Columbus Zoo which has become my passion. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. With the new Heart of Africa opening this year, I've been busy with the critters.

For the countdown - yes, I started at 100. Day 100 introduced the coaching staff. From there, I do the countdown, including "retired" numbers - which are no longer retired. This will be the first year in a long time I won't be coming up for games, the work schedule makes it too difficult. It will be nice not waking up at 6:00am on game day, regardless of the game time. I'll be up for one or two, but it won't be all consuming like it has been.

For those going, enjoy. I'll be at home with my HDTV

RIP Bo. You were an amazing man; it is because of you, I am the Michigan fan I am today.

I was just at the zoo yesterday morning , and will be back again today.  Love C-bus zoo.  One of the best things about living in here.

I hope Nuss realizes what a weapon Funches is and different ways to use him. He can be a man among boys out there if given the chance and he applies himself.

If Funch cuts down the drops I could see him being a top 15 pick in the upcoming draft.

My concern is a small--but potentially telling--tidbit during one of the Inside Michigan Football (or whatever it's called) vids from last summer. They asked him something along the lines of "what feels better--catching a touchdown, or dunking a basketball?" and he of course answered dunking, which seems to indicate his head and heart aren't 100% in football. He's talented enough that that can be negligible, but we'll see.

He could be a very special player if he applies himself.

Funchess reminds me a lot of Braylon Edwards (the college version). He makes the difficult catches look easy, but on the flip side the easy catches look difficult. We`ll see if he's ready for the bright lights of being the #1 WR. There's no Gallon around to draw coverage or safety attention. He`ll have a target on his back for the first time in his career, HS or college.

While I think Funch best role is suited as a stretch TE (ala Jimmy Graham/Gronk) Michigan doesn't really the luxury of not playing him outside. I would personally rather see Funch lined up in a mismatch with a safety or LBer but we need MAJOR help outside. The WRs we took in the 2012 and 2013 classes have not been factors so Funch has had to pick up the slack.

This.

Too many drops, which you almost forgive (or expect) at the TE position, but we can't have it at the receiver spot.  I agree-he's a potential big time match-up problem at TE but WR will be a different story.  But we'll see.

Dear ZJ,

Thank you for your concern over Michigan football and its players. This "Funchess" kid you mention, do you have any info on this kid? I'm going through Borges notes on players and he doesn't show up in any records. Is he still on the team? All Borges left was a manilla folder stained with hot sauce, and a picture of David hasselhoff in leather pants.please let me know asap as I believe are season is starting pretty soon, right?

Sincerely,

Nuss
