To me, he doesn’t sound as bad as people are making it out to be. The kid just turned 20, has been ALL over the news for the last 12 months (positive and negative), just won a national championship, cameras everywhere, people pulling him in all different directions…some kids are built to handle that with public speaking and having everything you say instantly scrutinized and others are nervous. Hell, at 20 I was just trying to keep my speech straight after crushing and 18 pack of natty light, haa. I’m just saying…you read the transcript and it’s not that bad…because of the investigation, etc…people are looking for anything and everything to rip this kid right now. especially the sec folks, who more than anything else are just pissed about losing.

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.

False uneek. You can't group everyone from the south that way, though there is plenty that speak horribly (North as well). Lived in Bama and Louisiana for 3 months each, sh!t my oldest brother was born in Bama. I've heard some deep accents, but they still put together coherent sentences. That's not country he's speaking, that's more of an I don't care/know how bad I sound speaking. People in Knoxville even had a pretty thick accent, more than I was expecting anyway, but most spoke coherently. This really isn't as big an issue as we all made it out to be hahah

I am not grouping everyone from the south that way. I am saying that MOST folks from the region have a dialect different than others around the country. You lived in the south and you know everyone sounds different some more coherent than others. I am not even sure why this is a discussion because it sounds to me like folks have sour grapes because he isnt on their team.

And for the others on the jury being out they never had to have one because the DA chose not to prosecute so therefore he is innocent based on the law. Now public perception may be different but remember what it says in the bible on those who judge.....

Speed? I am sorry, I have been a Michigan fan my entire life....this speed concept is foreign to me. What is this "speed" of which you speak?

Denard Robinson. Ever heard of him? Troy Woolfolk? Josh Furman? Michael Shaw?

We've had it ... just not all at once and at the right positions.

40 time:
Denard 4.32
Woolfolk 4.48
Furman 4.37
Shaw 4.49
One I didn't mention was Martavious Odoms, who clicked off a 4.39. Pretty sure I remember a story about him beating Denard and Wolf in a three-man race.

For comparison's sake, Kermit Whitfield's last timed 40 was 4.37.

So, yeah ... absolutely serious.

People who rattle off 40 times should be muzzled. Odoms ran a 4.39 at Pro Day. Okay? And? He didn't play that fast at Michigan. Who gives a **** about Troy Woolfolk running fast? He couldn't tackle. Who cares about Michael Shaw running fast? He had some of the worst vision for a RB in Michigan history. Who cares about Josh Furman being fast? He was given a scholarship to Michigan based on that alone, and four years later he still hasn't learned to play football.

As for the Winston thing, he was offered and recruited by Stanford, FWIW. So he's not "dumb." And it's not even his speech itself that throws me off. There's just something about his actual mannerisms that seems.....unusual.

The point was that we've had fast guys. Now ... if you want to dissect it into fast AND talented AND NFL ready AND (fill in adjective here) then rock on. Speed is useless if you don't know how to use it. Denard could use it. Troy could, too, before his injury.

leave it to this forum to cricitize a kids speech. He is from ALABAMA I repeat ALABAMA he talks like most southerners in the deep south talk. It is no reflection on his education nor his school. He just speaks country. Just like people from New England speak a certain way and they sound just as ridiculous as southerners or people from Canada.

But I bet all of us in here would take him as our QB in a heart beat!!!

As long as he is a good person and performs on the field who cares how he talks!!!

Huh?  This is retarded.  Nobody is talking about his dialect.  You either speak intelligently or you don't and where one is from has nothing to do with it.  Good god...

Frankly, it doesn't matter and I don't really care what he says or sounds like.  He's not somebody I think about and like I said, he may be a 4.0 and a great person (although there's a little something-something out there that tells me he may not be) but in the end, he's somebody else's concern.  Not mine.

I get a chuckle out of ESPN.  What some would call a defensive collapse, they spin it as an "instant classic" and rerun it.
See you in another life, brother.

All this talk about Winston speaking like an academic all-american from the bizarro universe reminds me of that tweet that Cardale Jones made last year:

See you in another life, brother.
