EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State has suspended senior linebacker Max Bullough for violating team rules, making him ineligible to play in the Rose Bowl.

In a news release sent early Thursday, Spartans coach Mark Dantonio said Bullough had been suspended for the rest of the season. He did not say what rules the two-time team captain violated.

"It is extremely disappointing for all parties involved," Dantonio said.

What in the world could possibly have gotten a Bullough suspended by MSU for a Rose Bowl?  That had to be a major-league violation.  That would be like Michigan leaving a Dufek behind.

I think this is one time where rivalry aside, Michigan fans have to give credit and respect to Dantonio and Hollis.  There aren't many coaches that have the nads to sit the face of their program and the captain of their defense for any bowl game, much less the biggest game for the program in 26 years.

Yep, good move by Dantonio. Some of these suspensions can be anything, but you have to think it's something serious to suspend for the Rose Bowl. You're not going to suspend your best defensive player for missing a team meeting.

No inside info, but my guess is he failed a drug test. Teams don't typically test throughout the season but they do before the bowl game. What makes this more stupid (for Bullough) is players are usually told of the day they need to take the test so they can prepare for it.

Oh c'mon.  Meyer would have sat him for a series.  Let's be real. ;)

It probably won’t affect his draft status too much…he might slip a few spots, but teams will still want this guy on their 53 man roster come next fall. But I’m sure his Dad, Uncles and brothers are kicking his ass right now for being a dipsh*t and getting suspended in his final game in green and white…and a rose bowl of all games. Sparty hasn’t been in like 30 years! Haha

Word on the street is steroids, which is not a real shocker.  At least he wasn't smoking crystal meth with 2 coke whores in a motel room in Flint.  I guess.  ;)

If it is 'roids it could be another Brian Cushing deal. Everyone knew he was a roid head in college....that might hurt his NFL stock more so than weed, per say. Weed doesn’t help enhance your performance (at least on the football field, haha). But teams might look at him now at someone who has taken roids throughout his career to play at the level he has played at for a few years. And compare that to guys in the NFL who have used roids to gain and edge and then once off them, have their play decrease significantly (see Shawn Meriman).

An Urban player would have been forced to miss the National Anthem as a suitable punishment. We'll eventually find out what this is about, but I commend MSU for taking this action. Not often I feel this way, but do in this instance.

The Lions will probably take him in the first round and not only that, they'll trade up to get him. Haha

It really might hurt him since he's from the same school as the biggest 'roidhead draft bust in NFL history.  You know the name of Tubby Tony Mandarich would come up in connection and be a reminder of that failure.  PED abuse makes him no higher than fifth round of the draft, and likely makes him a UFA.  I couldn't imagine him going higher than late third round even without the 'roids.
