WolvyMike how do you go from RB coach to LB coach? He's coached both positions and is a former linebacker himself. Hoke is, first and foremost, looking for a recruiter to replace Montgomery. He obviously believes that Manning can be a lights out recruiter.

WolvyMike how do you go from RB coach to LB coach? The better question is how do you go from NFL LB to coaching RBs haha. Roy is more qualified to coach LBs than RBs.

Fwiw, Cincy led the Big East in rushing last season. Supposedly, the players loved Roy and he was a top notch recruiter for them. He was even able to convince running back recruit Aregeros Turner to join him at NIU. Turner was arguably Cincy's most highly regarded recruit in the '13 class who wasn't a JuCo. Bucth Jones tried to snake oil Turner to UT but the kid chose to follow Roy instead.

As a UC alum I know Roy did a great job and the players did universally love him. I was just saying that Roy is way more qualified to be coaching LBs than the is the position he's been hired to coach in the past. Recruiting at the biggest stage is actually one of the questions I have regarding Roy. That and his recruiting ties match areas where we are already strong.

I believe that Florida was one of the areas that Roy was responsible for recruiting last year while at Cincy. I suspect that GMatt will now spend a little less time in Ohio in this recruitng cycle and a little more time in the southeast, especially given the fact that this is considered to be a weak year for talent in the Buckeye State.

Interesting little tidbit that really is unimportant but funny nonetheless: it will be interesting to see if Roy rocks the "Michigan Football" hat again when he returns to A2. When he was a GA there, he always wore the hat with the full-print words rather than the "Block M," which is something that Coach Hoke always gave Roy **** about. He always poked at Roy about being a "young guy." Now that he's in the big leagues, let's see if he makes the switch! Great hire by UM!
