From 2008-2013, Michigan was ranked in the top ten just once (Michigan State week in 2011).
From 2002-2007, Michigan was ranked in the top ten 35 times.

Forgot half a decade, we haven't won a championship of any kind since 2004, and split that one!!

I`m with you, we've been in the shadows long enough.

The last time we were unranked in the preseason (2011), we finished 11-2 with a Sugar Bowl victory. I'd take that again this year in a heartbeat.
Good luck RR! Go Hoke! Go Blue!

"Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f*ck the prom queen." - Sean Connery

Who the hell wants to be an underdog?!?! That means you're not good enough and I never want to be not good enough. I always want to be better than my opponent.

Being an underdog means I haven't won enough, recruited enough, developed my players enough, etc. I haven't done enough to be the best and that's unacceptable.

Would you rather be the Patriots every season or the Lions?

Would you rather be the Spurs every season or the Knicks?

Screw being an underdog!

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.

Agree with this whole heartedly.  That said, I do think the coaches and players can use their being overlooked as a HUGE motivational tool!  I was watching Big Ten and Beyond last night and there was barely any mention of Michigan.  Its as if, outside of OSU and MSU, no one else might as well even suit up in the East Division this season?

Hell, both MSU and Auburn were both in similar positions last season to where we are this season.  Both Auburn and Sparty started the season unranked and we know how that played out with Auburn playing for the NC and Sparty winning both the B1G Championship and the Rose Bowl and finishing 4th in the final polls.  Who's to say we can't do something similar this season and sneak up on everyone to be this season's Auburn or Sparty?  I know if I were on the coaching staff, this is what I'd be using as a motivational tool to maybe light some sort of fire under this team! We shall see how it actually plays out though...

Exactly what I was getting at.

I never said I'd rather be an underdog than the powerhouse we USED TO be. But the fact of the matter is that's who we are. We can cry about it, or we can enjoy the process of climbing the mountain (rankings) each week when no one (outside of Desmond Howard) thought we could.
Good luck RR! Go Hoke! Go Blue!
