Is New Coaching Staff Turning Michigan into Alabama of the North? Thursday, April 03, 2014 10:08 PM (permalink)

Once upon time Michigan fans mocked Nick Saban-- before LSU, before Alabama and before the national championships which established him as one of the premier coaches in collegiate football.

Nick Saban at Michigan StateBut if Brady Hoke returns Michigan football to the upper echelon of college football fans may owe a debt of thanks to Saban.

Like what Nussmeier is bringing to AA...but not "feeling" the whole "Alabama of the North" moniker.

Is anyone really buying the hype with all these fluff pieces the the free press and mlive.com are putting out? Personally I am not!

They are heading in the right direction but it's tough to get back up to the top plateau!

That's what the spring is all about….puffing smoke and drinking hype.

Canteen is cocky and that’s good, we haven’t had any attitude at WR in a LONG time. He thinks he can play early, often and catch balls against anyone, bring it baby!

I think Douglas is going to get lost in the shuffle…probably 4ht/5th best RB and obviously got buried on defense so probably a special teams guy before he decides to transfer.

Mason Cole may be legit, but if he plays LT against Appy St…we’re F’d.

The more and more I read about the DL, the more I like our depth….and if it’s true that we are ready to play man to man, that will absolutely help our DL get to the QB (depth with also help keeping guys fresh). I think this is the 1st time in a while I can remember returning both starting CB’s….oh yeah, and we have this guy named Peppers who is set to take AA by storm in the fall.

I've heard Mattison refer to playing "Michigan Defense" again. Is ‘Michigan Defense” sort of like “Michigan Man”...haha. My guess is other teams just laugh when they read our players/coaches talk about being a “michigan defense”….lol

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.

I have too.  So it makes me wonder what, exactly, he was playing last year.  Illinois Defense?  Did he just feel like taking a break from "Michigan Defense"?   This entire staff is just a bunch of blowhards  who excel at 'coach speak' and double-talk.  Get it done on the field.  For once.

The coach speak is almost becoming unreadable...but I can't help myself, it's like I have a Michigan football reading addiction. Haha

I think Brady Hoke wants very badly to be Alabama. I don't necessarily feel as though we're on that trajectory. Saban surrounds himself with the best coaches and recruits that money can buy.

I almost never read articles with our coaches quotes anymore. It's almost unbearable.

Well, we could already be the "bama of the north" just depends on what era of bama football they are comparing us to. Lol

The Michigan Football hype machine died two years ago.  "This is Michigan Football" has to be the dumbest rallying cry I've every heard.  When was Michigan Football what Hoke is referring to?  1997?  Just stop talking and win football games.  That's the only thing that's going to save your job.  I did hear "this is a young team" about 15 times from Hoke today at the spring game.  Looks like the excuse line is being set up already for August.  Time to see if this coaching staff can turn boys into men.  I think last year proved they struggled with that.
