Michigan has become college football’s Dallas Cowboys, competitively dominant only in fond memory but nonetheless one of the strongest marketing brands ever created in sports.

And Dave Brandon has become Jerry Jones, the shrewd businessman with the impeccable timing, unafraid of reminding everyone about who’s running the show and unwilling to walk away from the bright glare of the spotlight. Like Jones, it’s as though Brandon encourages it.

Michigan eventually must realize that championships trump the cultivation of an image. There must be a better response to why the Wolverines think they can regain their lost nationally elite status than simply “We’re Michigan."

The seat might be hot under Brady Hoke, but it should be hotter under Brandon. His athletic director legacy is directly tied to the success or failure of his handpicked coach.

Great....now we're being thought of in the same sentence as the cowboys.

Wish I could build a legitimate argument against his theory.

Consider the source: Drew Sharp. I haven't read a single word that man as written in years and it feels wonderful.

Sharp is a hack of a writer. He simply uses an effective formula to get people to read his drivel. He attacks teams' fans. Red Wings, Lions, Michigan, whomever-it doesn't matter to him. he simply picks a weakness the team has, or prevailing thought, and rams on it. He knows the fans of the teams can't help themselves but read it in order to defend their team. Hence, his articles get a high amount of views. Any troll with a keyboard and a blog can do what he does.

Go read Mitch Albom to read a writer who is actually talented.

Is that guy a UM beat writer, or does he cover all sports?

I don't think I've ever agreed with the clown known as Drew Sharp, except for this time.

Unfortunately, Dave is the Puppet Master right now; orchestrating his moves within his scope of employment (developing all U of M athletics by beating the hell out of his fan base with fees and "donation" demands) and influencing decisions on the field. the man is very "Jerry Jones"-esque.

I posted this same idea in the "Dear Leader blessed us with some quotes today" thread (post #10) a few days ago.  Apparently, much like Drew Sharp himself, the post was panned and rated a "1".  Who knew that Dave had a Umgoblue account?

Hate the guy, but I've got to agree with parts of his article, unfortunately.

Every once and awhile the stars will align and Sharp will make a salient point. This is the second one he's made this month now that I think about it after quizzing DB on why Michigan held a press conference orchestrated by Brandon over a coordinator hiring when no one else does.

We only wish we were the Cowboys. The Cowboys are in the race until the last game or 2 every year, we're out of the picture about Halloween.

Being a distant michigan and cowboys fan I am a fan back t not on the inside so as an outsider fan my judgment is not as cloudy as an insider. I actually said this around thanksgiving. N boh teams live off the past but uas a branding that is top notch, and sometimes that type of success breeds complacency. Hey you're making billions and competitive but what's misunderstood is you're not dominate and have that hunger to win by all means....this is what osy has what the sec has and what we don't
