Can Borges make the adjustments to help Gardner thrive?

Hoke will need to sit down with his offensive coordinator and figure out how an offense that looked so good against Ohio State had completely failed versus Michigan State.

That conversation may not only hold the key to Devin Gardner bouncing back next season, but also determine Brady Hoke’s success as well.

Hint - Michigan State has the #1 Pass Defense, as well as the #1 Run Defense in the B1G.  tOSU has the #11 Pass Defense.
See you in another life, brother.

I love Gardner.  The kid has a ton of heart and has a lot of potential.

However, our coaching staff is ruining him.  Much like they good a great athlete like Denard and were unable to use him, Hoke seems unwilling to play to Gardner's strengths.

Can Gardner be great and lead us to the Big10 championship?  Absolutely.  Will Hoke put him in a position to succeed?  Not a chance.

Gardner is a warrior. Love the guy.

Does he make the right decision all of the time? Nope. Hold on to the ball too long and take too many sacks? Yep. But dear God, look at the heinous offensive line play and total lack of a running game. Not to mention he wasn't getting much help with the play calling in most of the games. Any QB back there this year would have had issues.

Shouldn't all the players, coaches, and fans be "bruised" by the disappointing season?
Good luck RR! Go Hoke! Go Blue!

Gardner is a fighter. I can't imagine what he goes through during a game. Without him, this team would probably be 3-9, at best.

While he made some flat out dumb bad passes at times. He's was always a leader. Hope he comes back better for it next season.

Let's not have short term memory. I have said many times how much I like the kid but for most of the season he did not pass the eye test as being a good QB. His was indecisive, held the ball and literally couldn't read a defense. Part of that is our OC but a lot it it falls on his shoulders. He needs to be a lot more consistent(duh) and should be pushed by Morris in the spring. Play the best players next year. Loyalty is for short term coaches.

Except at Michigan.  Loyalty gets you a free 10 year pass.

The offensive line did him no favors. There was blame all the way around. But, lets hope the kids grow up by next season.

For all his highs and lows this year...there has to be an upside, right?

He owns the 2 best single-game passing performances by a mich QB in the school's 134 yr history.

He also just had the 2nd best-single season passing numbers in program history with 3,000 yds (60% completion) and 21TD's (only 4 off Mich's single season record of 25 by both Grbac and Henne). He threw a ton of picks early in the season, but only 1 INT in the last 6 games.

He did all this with absolutely NO offensive line while being sacked 34 times (for reference, Mich only gave up 36 sacks the previous 2 years combined).

And lastly, the kid could have easily packed it in, but he continuously fought, and fought hard, playing injured and showing he's a tough kid that can be a leader on this team moving forward.

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.

I figure I am in the minority here and maybe its the Maize and Blue sunglasses here but I have a feeling Devin is poised for a phenomenal run next year.  Or at least I hope…..

Awesome Scottsdale, those truly are decent #'s. What was his total on INT's? Like 12 or so? I hate seeing these fair weather fans dismantle this kid. Obviously he had some growing pains, and his own struggles. But he worked, and worked to fix them. The fans that said throw Morris in late in the season are the ones that know nothing about the details of the team than what they see on Saturday. The upcomkng bowl game will tell us a bit, but I believe next year, with a more experienced O-line we will see a more polished and consistent DG.

I hate the whole "wait until next year" slogan, but for once, I'm actually excited about next year.

I am not so excited about losing our 2 tackles next year. Mixed with our already horrendous interior O linemen, DG might get sacked 40+ times.......

You need to read between the lines.  Loyalty to players is for short-term coaches.  Loyalty to inept assistants gets you a 10-year pass.

Ironically, we lost 5 of our last 6 games when DG threw only 1 INT...how the hell does that happen? He threw 10 in our first 6 games....it didn't necessarily produce W's...and I think part of the reason he only threw 1 pick in the final 6 games was because of how much Big Al simplified the offense. And there were also about 5 drops by NW DB's and LB's. Haha

Strengths – throws an accurate deep ball more often than not, when healthy incredibly elusive and can be difficult to defend, when feet are set and he has time there aren’t many throws he can’t make, and he’s tough as nails.

Weaknesses – starring down his primary targets far too often, doesn’t always read coverages properly and hangs onto the ball too long in the pocket.

He has all the physically tools to be a very good college QB, but can Borges develop him? Can he get some help from his OL? Help from the run game?

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.
