I love how some of you are still clinging to this thought that Hoke is too loyal to his coaches...even after he fired the one man of staff he would be the most loyal to.

Also, Hoke fired Borges. Not Brandon. Hoke hired Nuss. Not Brandon. Let it go conspiracy therorists.

Let me ask this:
The O-line has reeked for 2 consecutive years, the secondary has reeked for 3 consecutive years yet both coaches remain. What exactly would you call that?

Borges would be the top guy he would be loyal to? Hecklinski and Smith have been with Hoke way longer than Borges was. Hecklinski since 2004 and Smith since 2003.

heck coaches the WRs.  did you honestly think the WRs were one of the bigger issues of the team?  I didn't.  also, smith coaches the LBs, and while they weren't amazing, I still believe that the DL is the major reason why the LBs didn't perform at a higher level.  bolden, gedeon, and ross (although he did regress) have major upside IMO

I am not saying Heck has been an issue....in fact I think he is the best position coach we have. As far as LBers go, again not my biggest concern...but do not see the point of having 2 LB coaches unless the plan is to move Manning to RB coach after Jackson retires. We effectively have 4 coaches coaching the front 7...it seems a bit much especially in terms of their results.

so what was the point of bringing up the loyalty issue, if you think they're not the issues?  should hoke just fire the better position coaches just to prove that he's not loyal to some random critics?

BTW, i agree that it's kinda silly that we have that many D coaches

I didn't bring it up, others did. I was just countering the claim that Borges would be the coach on staff that Hoke would have been most loyal to.

Your guys points are crossed. Your replies don't make sense to the original post jfyi. I don't think it was a fire for loyalty point being made. I think they saying we basically have 2 pos coaches that suck massively. Heck and the rest do t need to go. I dunno maybe I'm reading and interpreted wrong.

How the hell Mallory or funk still has a job is beyond me. I don't wish a coaching carousel either, but damn are they terrible!

Agree...as HAPPY as I was to see Borges go, I was really disappointed that Funk & Mallory didn't follow him

I really believe the OL & secondary better see major improvement in 2014...especially, the OL...if Funk & Mallory don't want to become the next coaching casualities!

It is not uncommon for many staffs in America to be uneven numbers wise and it is usually tilted toward what background the head coach has come from. Currently we have 5 defensive coaches (that number includes Hoke), and 5 offensive coaches. Perfect balance. Under RR we had 6 offensive and 4 defensive.

Hoke won a bcs game with players that were developed under the previous regime. So he can win with players when they are developed. He just can't develop his own

Well I have heard that Funk is more of a zone blocking guy who was forced to run the straight ahead that Borges wanted. I have heard that Nuss is much more adaptable to what he has in front of him. So maybe we move to a more zone blocking scheme that works for Funk. We shall see.

Good point.....did not know that about nuss.....honestly I still don't know much about him.

Man I sure hope it helps, I really do.

The only concern I would still have is a point I believe 4life made about zone blocking which doesn't matter during our atrocious pass blocking.

I've looked at the schedule for '14 & being as realistic as I can I see at best an 8-4 season. Given that this team plays down to its competition, is uninspired, poorly lead, & not at all nasty I could easily see a 6-6 season. I certainly hope I am wrong but I just don't see any realistic scenario in which Brady Hoke turns things around enough to save his bacon. His relationship with DB may buy him the '15 season but be it this year or next I believe we will be right here discussing our new AD & HC. I just wish we were having that discussion right now instead of suffering thru another miserable season or 2.

Each team has its own identity. People were saying the same thing about Hoke's first year, same talent as year before and completely different team. Every team is different and it shows at all levels of football. That's how turnarounds happen. If DG, Jake, and a few other seniors step up we could very well see a great season. And if they don't we will likely be facing the scenario you presented.

My motto for 2014 is ‘just win baby’…I don’t care how we look, who plays, what transpires to get the victory….simply put, ‘just win baby’

The whispers in Hoke’s office should say, “if you win…they will come”

Go Blue!!

Ohio St.'s actions are not unlike their lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger.
