Al Borges setting the pace?? Gag. Hoke & Mattison yes but Borges has proven ZERO. Say it again- ZERO.
proven zero? really? thanks TK. I didn't know what your stance on borges was before this post. good thing you finally stated it for the first time. . .
What has Al Borges proven exactly? That he sh!ts the bed when it comes to playcalling in big road games?
I've been willing to give Borges a pass because he hasn't been working with a full deck when it comes to players that fit his system, but there are no more passes this year. It's time for Borges to start earning his keep!
i never said he has proven anything. my post was 100% tongue in cheek in response to TK's constant, repetitive shtick against borges. yeah, I know the offseason is slow and there's not a whole lot to talk about, but he's made the point a thousand times
my opinion? borges' true evaluation period starts this year and goes until 2014, on the stipulation that gardner returns for his last season. I'll be the first one to say that he hasn't held up his end of the deal in comparison to mattison/hoke. borges is on record stating that "I'm not a spread guru." he readily admitted this. let me put it to you this way. if you bring a chef from italy to the US, and ask him to cook mexican food, and the food doesn't turn out so good, whose fault is it? not the italian chef's fault. he did the best he could (most probably). at this point, you only have 3 options:
1) lower expectations of food/UM FB (not gonna happen at a place like UM)
2) give him time to learn mexican food (Borges is not gonna learn the spread offense when he's been running a certain offense his own way for decades)
3) give the chef the resources to make the food his way (which is what Borges finally has)
again, I'll be the first to say that the offense has been pretty underwhelming so far. but he finally has the players he wants, which is why I think a two year evaluation period is more than fair, with the condition that gardner comes back next year. now, if the offense is terrible this year, then yeah, I'll be extremely disappointed. if gardner comes back and the offense is not a top 15-ish offense in 2014, I'll be in favor of hiring a new OC. all I'm saying is, let's wait until we play a game or two THIS YEAR before we call for his head
