Depending on how your HS team did, you have to feel good about this weekend. Wolverines and Bears won. Lions' bye week is neutral, but the Lions face the Bears next. Can't miss?!

I just wanted to give you your due for correcting my factual error. It is what it is and I wanted to be big enough to own it. It may not matter why or to you, but I didn't get the correct information from watching NBC. It's clearly a perception thing. I know NBC had it in their spot, but for me, I just didn't get it in passing.

Yeah no biggie, I wasn't trying to be rude or rub you the wrong way or anything, my bad.

I knew what you meant by "9" by the way, believe me, although I haven't seen any promo spots.

I was just confused by the part about a late Houston TD, Parker & Bus.
I also happen to think the Steelers will beat the Browns on Sunday. Cleveland played at about a 1st preseason game level last week against the Cowboys, and still refuse to field anything resembling an NFL defense.

Thanks for clarifying by the way, I agree with all of your points.

EDIT: I don't think it's "always about me" by the way, just when I'm quoted in a post!

If you know where the game is, you know what the number "nine" refers to.

You may get some satisfaction in saying it's vague. I know my intentions were to be subtle and not have to always spell it out. It's not always about you. In fact, I usually post to promote or facilitate discussion, not suppress it IMO. The Steelers fans that live in town give me perspective I can't get living in Michigan where I had to watch the Jets vs. the Dolphins. I understand why this game is the pick, but I really don't care about Brett the Jet.

How about this:

1. The media has talked about how poorly the Browns played against one of the NFL's superior teams in terms of expectations.

2. The Steelers played extremely well against one of the NFL's perrenial doormats.

3. NBC wants not only Cleveland and Pittsburgh fans on Sunday night in prime time, but the entire nation.

4. NBC promoted in their commercial that Cleveland has lost the last nine in this rivalry game.

5. The media is skeptical  about why the Steelers would ascend to the top of AFC, after declining so much at the end of last season, especially in the playoff game in which they had Jacksonville down in 4th quarter and could not close them out.

6. What are the Steelers known for? Defense. I believe Steeler fans want to see a return to this strength. It's hard to know when you are playing the Texans.

7. Willie Parker lead the NFL in rushing last year before his injury and only scored 2 TDs the entire season.   He seems to have made a statement in this game.

8. The Steelers look to cleanup in their division, especially if Cleveland's play in Week 1 is representative. The rest of their schedule may bring them back to the pack.

9. I loved the Bus as a Steelers fans. It's ND week and I have had friends who can never forgive him for being a domer. I'm just admitting that.

10. I haven't predicted anything, but at this point, Cleveland is expected to have about as much of a chance of beating the Steelers as Michigan will beat Ohio State.  But, this is the NFL. I would expect the Browns don't want to think about ten straight losses to the Steelers.

Ahhh, that seems so much more concise, now that I look back at it (sarcasm).

Let the best team win! I'm sure the Browns will get their win in this rivalry. The law of averages would seem to predict that.

Too bad the Browns lost, because it would have been better if they came into Heinz Field undefeated.

The game this week is in Cleveland. The Browns come into Pittsburgh in week 17 to close the season.

My bad. How could I miss that through all the hype on the promo spot? I will have have to watch it again to see what they used as hightlights. I do remember the number "nine" from last season and that in itself has to motivate the Browns, especially as the Steelers looked so good against a team that is so bad and was too easily lifted as a best in the AFC contender.

Of course, the Texans did get one of the meaningless TDs late in the game. Willie Parker leads the NFL with 3 TDs?! Maybe he didn't like hearing that he couldn't get it done at the goal line. The Bus was a tought act to follow in that regard (yeah, he was a domer, but also from Detroit).

I guess, ok, but you're pretty vague and all over the place here!?

It's so rare that you've got to appreciate it while you can.

What was cool is that we won our HS game late on an incredible play (I'll post the clip when I get it) and I thought the Colts would pound the Bears. So the weekend was completely unexpected.

The tickets have been bought out for the Lions so that game will be on TV. Hopefully, fans so aflicted with Lions-love can watch from home and withhold concession revenue from the Fords.

Congrats on the weekend Phil! I'm hoping this weekend could be even better with a Michigan win and a Buckeye beatdown. Plus all kinds of great HS, College, and Pro games this weekend too. I heard that with all kinds of tickets still available, the Lions game may be blacked out this weekend. It's a division game too against the Packers, so maybe fans will finally send a "pocketbook" message to the Fords this season.

Going to Tiger Stadium to see the Lions was fun, they were always competitive in the early sixties.
Darkness with harkness, when it was a good night when 7000 fans showed up.

No actually, it makes for a lot of happiness. I win a lot of bets and imagine my surprise when after the Lions were picked to beat the Falcons, I grudgingly turned on the game to find them losing 21-0 in the first half.

I feel bad for Lions fans but as long as the team is owned by an incompetent #$@ things will never change. And as for fans holding out hope for Lions when Ford Sr passes the reign on remember that Matt (any drunk from any sports bar in America could do better) Millen was the younger Ford's idea. What a mess...

Oh yeah, the Steelers won too! "Fast" Willie Parker returned following his season-ending injury to score 3 TDs (more than last season). He would be leading the NFL in rushing too, if the Lions had a run defense. Too bad the Browns lost, because it would have been better if they came into Heinz Field undefeated. Maybe it's the NFC's year with the Bears beating Indy and the Cowboys picked to finally meet expectations?

I'm cursed to stick with the Lions & Tigers through their mediocre seasons... One day... one day..

The Tigers will have there day, it may be a year or so, they just never got started this year. The Lions just never seem to get things on the right track. My dad stick by the Lions and Tigers 87 years now.

I grew up a so so Lions fan but gave up on them 38 years ago and switched to the Dallas Cowboys.
That saddest part of the entire football weekend was Tom Brady getting hurt and being out for the season.

Phil has always been a Bears fan. My father-in-law has lived in Chicago his whole life and he loves the Packers so of course he hates the Bears. Not sure how that happend. You cheer for who you like.

I agree that you cheer for who you like--but to rejoice while your hometown loses-thats..................sad!

I adopted the Bears over 20 years ago and stay loyal to them. I support the Red Wings, Pistons, and Tigers but will never give my loyalty to a team owned by the Fords.

You actually remember the Harkness days? Gee adopting to the Bears in those days must have been hard-was it full on that bandwagon?
