Threet made several bad decisions and Sheridan seems better at making those read decisions. I agree that Threet makes the fakes better and is more deceptive with the ball. If he can start connecting downfield and running the read option better, we will have a QB we can win with.

Re:question on qb changes (scmgoblue)

BoMoCarr

I thought his hand-offs were better than Sheridan's, and his fake hand-offs were much better, which is one reason he ran relatively effectively.

That's a good point, his fakes were much more convincing, he seems more comfortable with the read/option and his speed was just fine (although I still find myself screaming "SLIDE!" every time he takes off... I did find it odd that we got away from those read options in the middle portion of the game considering how HARD the Miami DE's were biting on them.

It looked to me like the defense didn't take passing coverage very seriously with Sheridan in the game. Whether or not Threet can go deep with any accuracy, he's at least a threat to try those passes. That helps to spread the field a little more than Sheridan can.

Another good point, but one that is somewhat moot if we can't manage to do anything with that space through the air.

I have more confidence that Threet's accuracy will improve with playing time than I have confidence that Sheridan's arm strength will improve with playing time.

I do too, but until Threet proves that he can actually hit those guys, I don't think any of us can say he's managed to seperate himself as "the guy". This is an entirely differen t discussion if he manages to hit ANY of those routes down the sideline Saturday.
Re:question on qb changes (Eric72GoBlue)

If Threet could hit a reciever he should be the starter. I just dont want him running the ball unless were in the red zone, other than that, hes not quick enough. I think RR just want's one of them to make a play, whomever it may be. If Threet isn't playing well, send Nick in to try and make a play. If Nick isn't playing well, send in Threet to try and make a play. Personally I don't care who makes the plays, as long as one of them does it.

Just my opinion though, it is subject to change.

Re:question on qb changes (goblueinohio)

neither Sheridian nor Threet are throwing the ball well. i think thats why the majority of the plays are short less than 5 yard throws. the offense does look a little better when Threet is in. i know thats not saying much right now but i got the feeling that he is getting more comfortable and is starting to assert himself more. now if he could just throw the ball.

Re:question on qb changes (Biff Tannen)

I have no earthly idea. I believe he has more yards rushing as well so, surprisingly, Sheridan appears to be the more productive qb of the two.

Re:question on qb changes (Chris_TX)

Threet's accuracy was anything but accurate today. While he ran the ball well, he missed many open receivers. I haven't watched the game but once yet, but I don't believe either qb completed a pass beyond five yards. Sheridan looked unimpressive, but he wasn't given an opportunity to throw the ball. I disagree that there was any offensive rhythym when Sheridan came in, but I can't begin to explain the reasoning for the change. In the end, I feel one quarterback played poorly and one wasn't given the opportunity to make any plays.

Surely after today we can stop saying that is clearly Threet's job to lose.
Re:question on qb changes (zjgm02)

westchamp

Given that, and you know I never disagree with you, in today's game, I cannot fathom why our coach changed qbs when he did - it was almost random - or at least it seemed to me - from Threet to Sheridan with a few minutes left in the first half?

Threet was about 4/8 for 8 yards in the previous three drives, including a couple completions for negative yards.

It's clear neither guy has convinced the coaching staff that he is the clear starter. I think Threet was on his way, but those were some horribly thrown balls that easily could have gone for 6 if they were on the money.

Re:question on qb changes (victors2000)

I was thinking with a few minutes left in the game Coach Rod was letting Sheridan redeem himself of last week. If sheridan was significantly different then Threet I could see using both, but now that Threet has a running game, perhaps we should give him most of the reps. He's got to complete the passes he missed today against ND next week if we are to win that game. I'd imagine their db's a slightly better than Miami's at least.
Honestly, and I know he's new, but I haven't seen the 4 star aspect of him yet.
