So, Mr. Spencer is trying to imply that Coach Rodriguez is acutally ignorant because his focus right now is on getting HIS team better??? Sorry, but I kind of like that fact that Rodriguez's top priorty right now is focusing on HIS team and not the vest's team...

And to add to the fact that Michigan does indeed have 3 rivals instead of the luxury of having just one like OSU does, I don't think there is any team on OSU's schedule that has a countdown clock set for the date of their game with the Buckeyes. Michigan, on the other hand not only has OSU with all of their countdown obsession, but MSU has now adopted the practice as well. It must be a sweatervest thing...

Maybe this game with OU can develop into something of an instate rivalry for OSU. We already know the two schools have been fighting over who the true state school of Ohio is. If that doesn't work out, there's always Akron or YSU... Also, I've heard the Ohio School for the deaf and blind is looking for a new in state rival. They might actually put up a better game than what OSU will get from their current rotation of cupcake Ohio schools...

I actually emailed the so-called writer of this article this morning calling him out on several of his failed points that he tried making. What a surprise that I haven't received a response yet...

Please post his reply, if he actually sends you one.

Rodriguez called the rivalry "the biggest in all of sports" during his Sunday Conversation interview... this is all about Buckeye fans and supporters feeling slighted because Rodriguez hasn't sat around and acted like it's the only game that matters since he took the post.

Frankly I'm surprised at your reaction, I would've throught you'd be able to see through some of this stuff by now... The tackling dummies at practice have the OSU logo on them... believe me, the guy understands it's a big game. Just because he doesn't say it every second doesn't mean your fan base needs to get its delicate sensibilities all twisted up in a bunch.

I think perhaps the best thing about this is how it rips on Moeller and the has to say... well, yes, he did go 3-1-1 but errrrrrrrr he was still stupid....

As did Cooper. His "just another game" comment was a weak attempt to calm his team down after years of choking because he had them wound up tighter than a drum. But he obviously knew the significance of the game, even in years when we were not in the running for the MNC.

It was bad enough that disgraced Michigan football coach Gary Moeller — last seen in Ann Arbor getting pink-slipped after drunk and disorderly conduct — refused to acknowledge Ohio State as a bigger rival than Michigan State.

Let’s see. It took him all of 2 seconds to ask who’s wearing the lampshade and to rip Gary Moeller, who kicked your ass. Alrighty, we’re off to a good start.

Jim Tressel started counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to the Michigan game on the January afternoon he was hired as Ohio State’s coach in 2001. Given his 6-1 record against the Maize and Blue, Rich Rod might want to find out where Tressel purchases his watches and clocks.
Yep, ‘cuz EVERY coach should be just like The Vest. This statement is pretty much what I would expect from a 5^th grader. Besides, the Vest doesn’t purchase watches-he passes them out as “signing bonuses”.

It’s too late for Moeller to buy a clue. For him to downplay the OSU-Michigan rivalry was especially unforgivable since he had seen the game from both sides as a Michigan coach and OSU captain. Maybe because he was 3-1-1 against Ohio State, with wins of 31-3 and 28-0 (thanks, Coop), he didn’t see it as that big a deal.
Umm…ok…not sure how this is relevant to anything (other than possibly blaming Cooper for EVERY SINGLE THING bad in a Buck’s life) but ok.

Or is he just ignorant?
Now we’re getting to the meat. He’s now called Rod ignorant. Of course, coming from a moron I don’t put a lot of stock in this.

Beating Ohio State should have vaulted to No. 1 on Rich Rod’s to-do list, if only because the Buckeyes are already winning at his expense. He listened as disgruntled offensive lineman Justin Boren ripped his staff’s lack of “family values” and then watched as Boren transferred to Ohio State. But that loss of a returning starter paled to losing the nation’s No. 1 recruit, quarterback Terrelle Pryor, to the Buckeyes.
Poor delusional paranoid Buckeye fan. Wha!! Did mommy not give you enough love? So sorry if Rod isn’t obsessed with you like you are with us. You’re very creepy in this way.

Rodriguez had called Pryor to tell him he was taking the Michigan job before he told his old team. So losing him to his arch-rival — err, one of the 12 teams on Michigan’s schedule — had to be devastating to him, not to mention costly to Michigan, whose transition from a pro-style offense to Rodriguez’s vaunted spread option attack would have taken a quantum leap with Pryor at the controls.
Yes, just devastating. (roll eyes, gag.) A quantum leap with Pryor? Don’t use big words you don’t understand.

Maybe Rich Rod’s problem is that he needs to upgrade his DVD collection. Anybody got the last 104 years of Ohio State-Michigan on tape?

Poor Buck fan. I know how hard it can be when nobody really cares about you and I understand that you want to jump up and down and have a tantrum because you’ve been neglected since birth. Yes, I realize the rest of the nation could care less (especially after the last 2 years when watching Extreme Home Makeover was more compelling than watching the NC games), but really, you need to get over it. You won't get banned for saying that. It really all just depends on where you are. Being from Grand Rapids and being a catholic I enjoy wins over ND and MSU just a tiny bit more than ones over OSU. I celebrate them all but I guess for me it really comes down to how you take the losses. I take losses to ND and MSU WAY harder that to OSU.

I will risk getting banned from this site for saying this, but to me UM-ND is the biggest game of the year. Always has been. I was born in South Bend (but grew up in Michigan) and in this area that game is huge. 99% of people around here are Michigan or ND fans and everyone lets it be known who their team is. OSU is a huge game for me, but nothing beats a big win over ND for me. Especially in South Bend.

I guess what I'm saying is that I can understand how people in similar areas could see UM-MSU as the biggest rivalry.

It seems silly to even read such dribble. Maybe we could all pull some Tressel quotes about Clarrett and the 2002 Championship and throw together bits and pieces of irrelevant information and try to make an article that at least barely appears to cover anything that has to do with this season.

This is definitely weak writing, let alone bulletin board material. It would be on my bulletin board for about as long as it would take for me to bank it off the board and into the trash can for three.

This sentence pretty much sums up the entire article: A writer has a deadline and has nothing to write about so he decides to take a few meaningless quotes and play to the local fanbase using smug language and irrelevant ad hominems.

I'm sure I could go find a few quotes from Jim Tressel about how RR is a good guy and a good coach, etc., etc., etc. and then turn them into an article about how Tressel is underestimating RR and not taking him seriously and has become complacent because he is 6-1.

No game is a given, especially Utah, and to have anyone (players, fans, equip managers, coaches, ANYONE) thinking about OSU at this point is a disservice to the team.

And while you may not like the analogy to Cooper, explain how him proclaiming OSU/UM as just another game was bulletin board for UM wherase RRod stating the same thing is also bulletin board material for Michigan.

And just how big is the bulletin board in the UM locker room? Seems like every day a story from one source or another has been tagged as bulletin board material and I don't see how the team has room left for any more.

Nowhere does he say the ND and MSU are "no bigger" than OSU. He says we have three huge rivalries and that he doesn't have a countdown to any particular game except the next one. He doesn't say anything that lowers the importance of the third saturday in november. With this team's inexperience it would be stupid to put any focus on anything other than Aug 30. No game is a given, especially Utah, and to have anyone (players, fans, equip managers, coaches, ANYONE) thinking about OSU at this point is a disservice to the team.

Fact is that Michigan does have more than one rival. OSU tries to build up in state rivals with all the MAC schools and the Youngstown States but it just never develops. Soon we will move on to how difficult the OSU schedule is this year because they play USC. Bottom line is that Michigan has a more difficult schedule year in and year out and OSU will always be jealous because teams are always more jacked to play Michigan than they are to play Ohio State. That is part of a rivalry.
This article is a great example of why OSU's fan base is widely viewed as the most obnoxious in all of sports. We are just fortunate as Michigan fans that OSU plays Michigan every year because if not, we would have no idea what college football is all about. If you don't believe me, ask a buckeye fan, he will tell you so.
Article fails to mention that Pryor was already leaning toward OSU before RR came to Michigan. That is not a recruit he lost at Michigan.
Also, it fails to note that his record against rival Pitt (4-3) is a .571 winning percentage. Tressels record in BCS title games with his players is 0-2. That is a .000 winning percentage. Oh yes, before I am corrected, he is 1-2 if you allow him to use the players that Cooper recruited for him. That is a .333 winning percentage which is still worse than RR's "rivalry game" record.

Those BCS game records include two "gag jobs" when the titles were at stake.

I'm not one to be a judge and say so and so person isn't a (big) UM fan if 'x' requirement isn't filled, but there is NO way a UM fan can say that MSU is a bigger rivalry than OSU. Heck, I think ND is a slightly bigger rivalry than MSU. to put it simply, we've DOMINATED MSU over the years. played them exactly 100 times, and won 67, equaled to, you guessed it, 67%. the osu game is bigger in terms of stakes and conference and national championship implications

The fact that the "reporter" (and I use that word loosely) wrote an entire article based on one or two sentences that RichRod made over a month ago. The fact that the reporter failed to do any research into finding out that RichRod does know the importance of The Game. Just the other night on ESPN, RichRod said something like it's the biggest rivalry in all of sports. But the "reporter" questions if he is "just ignorant"?

RichRod didn't say that the OSU/UM game is "just another game". That would be like putting it on the same level as the Northwestern or Indiana game. He said that "we have three huge rivalries". And from that, OSU fans want to say that he doesn't get the rivalry or that it's "just another game". I believe that he clarified this the other night on ESPN.
