Yeah how nice it would be to go to "the mistake by the Lake"!

Bah! That wasn't meant to be a negative post, although rereading it I guess it did seem that way. I used to love going to Tiger Stadium as a kid! Those are just some of the memories that stuck with me the most.

Lake Erie IS beautiful by the way...

I still make it a point to visit downtown Detroit take in a ballgame and and a Greektown Casino visit a few times a year. They've really cleaned up and improved the area over the years, at least IMO.

Amen--Even though he really screwed up his life-the only time I liked to watch games behind home plate was when Denny was pitching. His fastball rised more than any other pitcher that I have seen.

There are tears coming to my face right now. I have had alot of fun in that old ball park. The ghost of Tigers past are in tears also I am sure. My dad has even more memories of Tiger Stadium.

I can still see Norm Cash at first base, Al Kaline in right field and of course our fellow Wolverine Bill Freehan behind the plate.

There use to be a ball park right here....

I have some pretty random memories from Tiger Stadium as a kid.

-A Coke vendor on the first base side of the field who used to walk around yelling "ICE COLD COKE, BEEP BEEP BEEP!" It was catchy and got stuck in your head, lol.

-Getting to a game a little late because 2 truck drivers were intentionally blocking both lanes on I-75 north the whole way up from Toledo, and walking in during the second inning and the Tigers were already down 11-0 to the Angels!

-Being scared to death just walking a block from where we parked to the stadium even though I was with my dad. The bums near the stadium always seemed to stare us down.

-"LOOOOUUUUUU" of course.

Ahhhh summer baseball memories from childhood are still vivid and some of the best, even 20 years later.

A sad day indeed. Tiger Stadium was second only to Wrigley Field on my list of favorite places to watch a baseball game.

I remember my first game back in '86. I almost started crying because I thought the whole crowd was booing Lou Whitaker (1 half of my favorite duo). My dad calmed me down and explained to me that they were Just yelling LOU! I loved Tiger stadium.

So many great memories. My first game was the '72 playoffs against the A's and I walked around in a daze for a month afterwards. The smells, the sounds, the sights-too much for an 8-year old to handle!

A very sad day indeed.

I agree a sad day - I can remember going up the ramps with my Dad and then through the tunnel and all of a sudden there was the greeniest grass one would ever see. However they needed to do this IMO and hopefully they can save some of it and use it wisely.
