Based only on this interview and the other ones from this post, it seems like he is less adamant about only attending a school with a "pro" style offence. At least that is how I read from "If you're good enough for the NFL, you're good enough for the NFL", but that may just be me reading way to into things. Hopefully the combination of football tradition and academic excellence at Michigan will lock up Newsome as a future Wolverine. Go Blue!

RE: QB Kevin Newsome (aMaizingMachine)

More from rivals, this time from Kevin

Chesapeake (Va.) Western Branch quarterback Kevin Newsome is in the midst of his second Midwest trip in as many weekends, but he took time to look back at last weekend's visit to Michigan for the Wolverines' Spring Game.

The 6-3, 215-pound Newsome was accompanied on the trip by his parents. His mother said the day after the trip she was impressed with the coaching staff, strength and conditioning program and coaching staff. Newsome was impressed with similar aspects of the University on his first trip to Ann Arbor.

"There was a variety of things that stood out to me about Michigan," said Newsome. "I really loved the coaching staff with Coach [Rich] Rodriguez and Coach [Fred] Jackson. I love the winning tradition of Michigan. I really believe Michigan is the Godfather of college football and that's what makes the Michigan-Ohio State game so notorious.

"Campus-wise, everything was big. It's the Big House. I can't even describe the different buildings, the practice field, the weight room - all those things were top of the line."

While visiting Michigan, Newsome and his family were able to meet and discuss the academic aspects of Michigan with academic advisor Shari Acho, something Newsome's mother specifically referred to as a highlight of the visit.

"I loved Miss Shari too," Newsome commented. "I believe I want to major in Business type subjects and Michigan's Business School [compared] around the United States is one of the top, so that's already a great advantage for Michigan."

As a quarterback, Newsome possesses both a strong and accurate arm as well as the ability to make plays with his feet. As a junior he passed for approximately 1,500 yards and ran for 600 more. In past interviews he listed the ability of a school to help prepare him for the next level as an aspect that would play a role in his decision and on Saturday discussed how he sees Michigan stacking up in those regards.

"If you're good enough for the NFL, you're good enough for the NFL," he said. "Anywhere you go in the country, as a quarterback, you are going to have to do what you have to do to become a better quarterback from studying film, repetition throwing the football, working with your wide receivers and working with the athletes and obviously Michigan's going to have the athletes. Just like anywhere else, you're going to have to pay your dues and work hard."

Besides Michigan, Newsome has also visited Penn State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Duke among others. In March he told Rivals.com that he would like to have a top seven by June and he has also discussed having a decision before the start of his senior season. After visiting many of the schools on his list already, though, that timetable could be sped up.

"I don't know about having a top seven, but I do want to commit in the near future," Newsome said.

Two more Midwest schools are hosting Newsome this weekend before he heads back to his Chesapeake, Va., home for what should be a very active spring evaluation period.

"I'm going to Illinois today and heading back home," Newsome said. "I went to Northwestern yesterday. They are very academically sound and have one of the best Art Science programs in the country and a great Engineering program. It was a good visit and I enjoyed talking with [Northwestern quarterback] C.J. Bacher."

Rivals.com ranks Newsome as the No. 18 prospect in the country and the No. 3 pro-style quarterback.

RE: QB Kevin Newsome (bluethebuckeyehunter)

i read where he was at spring game..... any news or comments from that visit ??

8 posts up...
RE: QB Kevin Newsome (WOLVERINE4EVER64)

i read where he was at spring game..... any news or comments from that visit ??
RE: QB Kevin Newsome (aMaizingMachine)
He more then likely will be an early enroll, so i think he will commit this summer, for whatever reaons the Va Tech fans think he has lost interest in them, and from looking at the other teams on his list, I think we are the leader. All RR has to do is assure him he won't be a run only QB, none of these good young QB's want to run run the football, they want to pass it, and run if they have to, like someone else said, just the threat that he can run, will keep the defense on it's toes. His family loved the school, and they have said the only concern is how he is used. As fast and atheletic as he is, he is still listed as a pro style QB, we have the RB's and the WR's, so let him be a pass first QB, or hand off the ball, and scramble when needed, and i think we land him.

**saw this pic, we have an all reciever set in this pic, including a slot and TE, this should let QB's know we will pass the ball.

RE: QB Kevin Newsome (southernBLUE)

ORIGINAL: madtadder

ORIGINAL: wolverines22

One thing I don't understand is why these duel-threat QB's seem to all be saying that they want to play in a pro-style system now. Where were they when we ran a pro-style offense that was a pipe line to the NFL?
Though I think once RR can prove to the media that the spread can be just as effective at passing as it as at running, I think this whole pro-style vs spread thing will start to die down.

If you watch any of the video on Kevin, he isn't as run oriented as other QB's. that's not to say that he can't run, but he definitely focuses on the pass. I can understand his hesitation where there would be a heavy emphasis on his legs.

he definitely is pass first, but watch the second play in this video, he is a great runner too, very good quickness.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ExJDDlWeJz0

thats the beauty of this offense, he doesnt have to run a bunch, he only has to be a viable threat to keep the defense on their heels.
RE: QB Kevin Newsome (madtadder)

ORIGINAL: wolverines22

One thing I don't understand is why these duel-threat QB's seem to all be saying that they want to play in a pro-style system now.
