"Big Blue Bar Brawl"
-
Monday, March 16, 2009 11:33 AM
Linked One of our good friends over at Mike Valenti's SportsInferno.com tipped us off to this. Scorekeepers in AA tried to keep a lid on it, but word on the street is that Donovan Warren and Brandon Graham got themselves (and other UM athletes) into a bit of a scrum that ended with AA police on the scene and Graham in handcuffs and the back of a squad car. Quotes from witnesses at the scene included "So I was at Scorekeepers tonight and I personally watched D-Warren get reject from the door and an hour later I'm chilling with the bouncers (one of my buddies is a bouncer so I know all of them) and apparently Brandon Graham go physical with the Skeeps bouncers and was taken away in a squad car. I don't know if any other players were involved, but I do know B-Graham was taken in a squad car for starting **** with bouncers at skeeps" "Graham was uber pissed he can't get his boys in. Started pushing and shoving with the bouncer. Cops called. Graham in the back of a squad car. The bouncer was not being a dick. He was doing his job. " A quick review of the Ann Arbor Police blotter doesn't list this, but we've seen in the past where the blotter didn't list all the details when it involved a Michigan Football player (Markus Curry) More details as we find them. Just found this... Dated March 15th. Of course... this is from a message board, so the information may not be all that accurate.

BigHouseFootball I happen to think getting handcuffed and put in the back of a squad car is a big deal. Been there 4 or 5 times....It's not a big deal.

WOW... definitely hails in comparision to "MO C" or Boone or the rest of the Dirty 30 plus. Sounds like a typical Gator fan that loves to bag on our program when thier programs "arrested kids" are far worse...example Fla. Gator AK-47. Buckeye fan, can you even name 30 players in UM HISTORY to be arrested, not just the last 5-10 years (tUOS or UF). Get off kids that are contained, (was B. Graham or Donovan even charged) and try convincing yourself that your program has far worse problems. GET REAL.

It's true. I don't know if those are exactly right but there was a couple more starters involved. It's not that big of a deal, otherwise it would be in the newspapers.

And here we go again. Any OSU player as much as get looked at by a cop and we jump all over them. One of our guys gets arrested and you all come running to defend. It goes both ways folks. Big time screw up by our boys and if it turns out to be true-most of the time it does-then they need to be punished accordingly. No big deal? I happen to think getting handcuffed and put in the back of a squad car is a big deal.

With technology today you essentially have reporters every where 24/7 so these things come out a lot more. With that being said M has a great reputation for all it's athletes both on and off the field. How did we get that reputation? By punishing our athletes when they screw up-even a little bit. M doesn't look the other way, they tackle it head on, they make an example of it, "Hey, if you screw up, this is going to happen to you." We hold our programs and athletes to very high standard, it's what separates us from the other programs around the country and we can see that standard slip in a hurry if all of a sudden we start to look the other way or just give little slaps on the wrist.

Hate to break it to you but we've been giving out slaps on the wrist for awhile now. There are programs that kick players out for getting busted with weed or a DUI, we use to under Bo but not anymore.

IF this is all true and BGraham was taken, punishment needs to happen and happen quickly. I can't BELIEVE our players even put themselves in that situation. Graham has the world at his fingertips, as does Warren. Bonehead bonehead decision. I just really hope punishment can be taken care of before the season starts. He needs to be running the stairs at the bighouse like Arrington. I really hope this isn't that big of a deal. Seniors should be very disappointed.

Ant was just putting the information out there, guys. There is no need to jump down his throat. He didn't say "Oh Michigan's got terrible kids, Michigan is an awful program, etc." In fact, he said it may not even be completely true. Everytime a Buckeye messes up, we are quick to point out how awful there coach is at disciplining his players and other things of the like. And then, someone doesn't even accuse us of having a bad program, and we get all defensive. Whether we like it or not kids EVERYWHERE, inculding Michigan, make mistakes. So if this is true, so be it. I'm sure the kids will learn from it. And if it isn't, then it will slide by the way side. But don't be so hypocritical by bashing Buckeyes when they screw up, but as soon as we (possibly) screw up you jump straight to the defense line... GO BLUE!

Sorry that's pretty funny. Even if I was a big bouncer, Brandon Graham is still a pretty large dude. Id let him in.

BHF~Why do you always just assume we approve of what happened or we think they should just get a slap on the wrist???????? Because what I said was "Man, that's a crazy sounding "bar brawl"...." and I think there were a few more very similar comments. But BAR BRAWL???? Come on! This sounds like they were trying to get in, bouncers wouldn't let them, words were exchanged, tempers flared and a little bit of pushing went on. Didn't sound like a big fight or punches were thrown. It sounds petty to me. And when cops are called and bouncers are getting messed w/, they're gonna put whoever was involved in cuffs and in the cop car until all is settled...That's how it works. Just because he was put in a cop car doesn't mean he messed someone up or got all ghetto on him! I'm not saying it's cool for him to lose his temper and act like an idiot, but I think we've all been there. I don't even know why I'm explaining myself to you, but quit taking everything out of freaking context ALL THE TIME. It's getting old................

I'm actually, for once, w/ BGH on this one. It does work both ways. To sit here and defend BG and DW while at the same time bashing buckeyes for doing similar things is pretty hypocritical. Furthermore, to sit here and say "we hold our athletes to higher standards because we're MICHIGAN"---that reflects a certain persona that is largely responsible for where the program is at right now. "We're MIchigan, Leaders and Best!!" (lolol) There might have been a difference in the standard 30 years ago but now everyone's in the same boat. The sooner the old folks and people with the "old guard" mentality realize this, the sooner we get out of the rut.

I don't see anyone defending BG or DW. I see people questioning if anyone got arrested or charged with anything, I see people asking for details. If they didn't get arrested or charged with something like disturbing the peace, this is less serious than a speeding ticket. They probably got some finger wagged in their face about "knowing better" and to not let it happen again. My comment was meant to question the use of the word "brawl" in the title. To me, a brawl means a fight. You know, where punches get thrown, maybe a bottle or chair are thrown into the mix. People getting hurt. A brawl. Not an argument with a bouncer. True Mich Fan described pretty accurately what I believe happened. I used the word "believe", because I haven't read a single article about this in any paper or sports site. Sorry, but Mike's Sports Inferno isn't exactly a credible source. Is there anything on MLive regarding this?
See you in another life, brother.

If this had been a buckeye, they would've already gone on your "list." You do realize Adams and Shugarts were never actually arrested... They got cited for carrying a tobacco pipe, and charges were dropped when they BOTH VOLUNTARILY took a drug test that came back negative. I didn't see you, or anyone else for that matter, even allude to, what must be in your mind, the remotest possibility that they were not guilty of anything other than running a stop sign. So... please... spare me the charade.

The division between the Rich Rod supporters and the Rich Rod bashers/Carr supporters is amazing and has turned this place upside down.

Does anyone really know what happened? No. 2. Was Ants title VERY misleading? Absolutely. and 3. On this Michigan fan site, do OSU players at times get treated worse than U of M's? (shocker) Just curious Ant, with the Adams and Shugarts incident, did anyone start a thread titled "Drug Trafficking," or "Drug Czars Caught?"

And I love how you call a bong a "tobacco pipe". Since the resin-free duo were never actually arrested, they were never put on the list. I stand by my original statement. If no body got arrested, charged or cited with anything, this is nothing more than an argument with a bouncer that got blown out of proportion. Spare you the charade??? Yeah. Right. I remember the whole "bong" thread getting out of hand mainly because of the whole "i have a bong for decoration" comment. I don't remember any of us going overboard (much) on the allegations. Labeling this a "brawl" was just ridiculous. That's kind of all we're saying here. We're not defending our players. We're not saying they were in the right or wrong for all that matters. We don't know what the hell happened and if anything really did. But when I picture "brawl", I picture like 10 guys going at it and the bar getting trashed....A better title could have been "Tempers flare at bar", because that's really all your given us right now. A little bit of ego and some shoving. I don't see any criminal actions here...? I take it there is no other info out there on this? I have tried searching and can't find squat. I know he didn't go to jail because he was updating his facebook talking about working out and spring ball.....

The link that I saw was titled "Big Blue Bar Brawl". All B's. Was catchy. I just got lazy and skipped the "big blue" part. And the quotes part. In retrospect, I should've done it that way. Maybe I'll edit it that way... Done...

There is not a SINGLE news article that says they were caught with a bong. Yes. Spare ME the charade. BlueSteel, it wasn't a bong, it was a decorative vase... I have to admit, when I read the title of this thread, coupled with all of the rumors floating around the past couple of days regarding this incident, I feared the worst. Then I saw the originator so I then thought, do I even want to read the likely BS he's spewing now? Sadly, I couldn't resist and here I am, commenting on it... Just my opinion, but from what I've read, it sounds like nothing more than a little pushing and shoving. Hardly what I would consider a brawl... I do agree with those that feel if arrests had been made, punishment should come down from Rodriguez and the football program at the very least. I don't like the idea of coddling our athletes when they find themselves on the wrong side of the law like a certain vest wearing coach of a little school in C'bus...

I have said it once and I will say it again. Osu fans live and die with Michigan it is more about the Wolverines than anything else. It does not matter they lost 2 embarrasing NC games or blew out by USC we beat Michigan 7 out of 8

Now, anyone in the market for some tix to the OSU/USC game on 9/12? Apparently I don't care about that one anymore and I might as well try to sell the tix before every other buckeye learns the truth about their real feelings and decides to sell as well.

Regardless if anyone got arrested it still shows the individual and the program in a negative light. I don't care if you get put in handcuffs and taken "downtown" or just sat there to pull your head out of your arse, either way you shouldn't be there in the first place. For the most part, last year with Grady's DUI, everyone seemed ok with how RR handled it. Susupension from team activities and basically a one game suspension right?? If the accounts that have been reported are true then based on last year I have faith that RR will hand out a punishment that fits the infraction. I, however, would not be surprised if any punishment is light based on the wether or not anyone was actually arrested and charged with anything. I would like to know if this "witness" knew if BG was taken away or just told to leave the area and not come back for the rest of the night.
BEWARE the South Side Stench of Colonbus!!! So this is what Duncan McCloud feels like.

Spare us with your sarcastic wit! You have over 1,000 posts on a MICHIGAN board! If that doesn't come across as being a little obsessed with Michigan, I don't know what else you would call it?! I can't even count the number of times I've posted on a bucknut board because it has NEVER happened. I can't even stomach taking the time to read some of the filth that comes from your bucknut sites let alone taking the time to post over 1000 times...

I guess if 1k posts over 7 or 8 years is obsessive then I'm guilty as charged. Some folks prefer their football dicussion to me more like a circle jerk: "XXX recruit is awesome!" "Yea, we are going 12-0 and there ain't now way we don't;" "our coach is awesome; our team is awesome; we are awesome", blah blah blah. That's not me. I debate for a living so I would rather jump into the fray with the enemy than stand around patting other fans on the back and offering nothing meaningful to the discussion. And if you don't appreciate the sarcasm, let me put it in a more straightforward manner: it's idiotic to attempt to tell a fan of any team how they feel about their team.

And if you don't appreciate the sarcasm, let me put it in a more straightforward manner: it's idiotic to attempt to tell a fan of any team how they feel about their team. I would hardly say that we stand around patting other fans on the back offering nothing meaningful to the discussion. There is plenty of debate amongst Michigan fans alone in here with regards to a variety of topics. I don't mind bucknuts coming over to our boards and getting in on some of the debates. It's when they get their panties all in a wad when they see us putting down their players and such that I think they cross the line! What do they expect to find on a Michigan board? IMO, it's their input that often adds nothing meaningful to the discussion! And speaking of adding nothing meaningful to the discussions, it is almost impossible to do so on one of your bucknut message boards without a) getting banned for having a differering opinion or b) getting called every derogatory Michgan slang in the book by some of the classy bucknut posters that infest those sites. I'm not saying you're one of those 85. From what I can tell, you're one of the more civil bucknut contributors to this site. I just had to take my shot at your post above dealing with buckeye fans obsessed with all things Michigan. I had a feeling you would come back with that argument dealing with your longevity of membership here on this board though...
