Phil, please tell me that was a joke like my topic starter... And in your opinion, disregarding the tradition of the jerseys, did they look ok other than that or were they really bad? If they wear them are they respectable? Try to give us detail on paint. Just paint what you saw on a blue shirt and a white one. No joke. The images I saw were described to me as game authentic jerseys for publication in a catalog of *official* merchandise. They didn't know the official release date but speculated mid-July. My gut impression was that I liked the away jerseys- I've always had no problem with them tweaking it a little bit every year. My first thought after seeing the home jersey was, "And people freaked out when they saw the (fake) away jerseys." Let me point outthat probaby 10-12 years ago Nike did an embossed "M" on both shoulders. You could only see it if you saw a jersey up close in person. I don't know what to think about the home jersey yet. I'm trying to get my hands on a real one before I decide. I've looked all over the web and haven't seen anything like I saw.

ORIGINAL: 2WalterSmith2 I don't understand how you could have a job in sports marketing for Adidas and not understand that you DON"T MESS WITH THE HOME UNIFORM. Anyone involved should be fired because they clearly don't understand Michigan and they don't understnad the backlash they will receive, starting with me. I live a mere five miles from Adidas' North American headquarters. If necessary, I will picket their headquarters on all our behalfs!!!! Adidas' job is to design it and sell it, which means someone at Michigan signed off on it and bought it. I would start with picketing Michigan and forget about Adidas. Phil's description (and thanks for the inside scoop Phil) sounds absolutely morbid. The yellow piping on the away jerseys is high school looking to start with, but now the home jerseys sound like an abortion too. It's one thing to go with the worst company for design across the board (Adidas), but to sign-off on something like this is moronic. I'm getting worked up over this one so I guess I'll wait to see what happens.

I hate to sound like one of those guys... but messing with the home jerseys is 100% sacrilegious. I don't mind the away jerseys that much, the piping just isn't that big of a deal to me (although I do think the little inserts are a bit much... I've always been a huge fan of the away jerseys that had the block M on the sleeve with the maize and blue stripes), if they want to tweak the away jerseys every year, go right ahead... but messing with the home jerseys? That's too much. Phil, is there any possibility at all that the designs you're describing are simply additions to the catalog and not what the team will actually sport on Saturdays?

Phil, is there any possibility at all that the designs you're describing are simply additions to the catalog and not what the team will actually sport on Saturdays? Anything is possible but what I saw were hi-res, publication ready images directly from the Adidas. I can't imagine that Adidas would put the amount of detail into an alternate jersey that the team wouldn't wear. I was surprised that the away jerseys didn't look more like the images kicking around and that the home jerseys had been tweaked. Quote from the person who showed them to me, "...I only have images of the game authentic jerseys not the replicas..." I have no reason to think the person was trying to fool me. When the images are published I'll give the exact circumstances. Right now I don't want to anyone in trouble with Adidas or the AD. The person had no idea about the other pics that are circulating and laughed when I described the fuss. I'll try to get a more specifc date for publication.

From what Phil is saying about the away jerseys I took it there is less maize piping than last year and it actually sounds like an improvement over what we had. I am also not freaking about the home jerseys. I'm going to hold off judgment on the M's until I see them, and where is everyone getting the idea that there is maize piping on them? Isn't it just a 1/4" by 1/2" patch of maize that says Michigan in it? I can't see that being TOO noticeable. We shall see though...

Got another look today. There is a *chance* the official images may be available online mid-July. Published images will be available in late July - early August time frame. The home jerseys have a maize block "M" on the shoulder, the number is a little thicker and seems to be placed a little higher than on past jerseys. There's also a small (1/4 inch wide by 1-2 inch) vertical maize strip running down from the collar that has Michigan in blue. The away jerseys have a thin maize piping straight across the chest. There also have a small maize strip on the back of the collar that says Michigan in blue. Correction: The small stripe running down from the back of each collar has a Block "M" on it rather than saying Michigan. The Adidas logo is above the number.

To get a better idea of this whole block M on the shoulders thing, is it similar at all to the size of the ones that we've had in the past during Rose Bowl games like the ones pictured below? Are they positioned/sized about the same minus all of the Rose Bowl stuff or what? Thanks a ton Phil!

I think I like them too. Relatively speaking. I'm not sure I've been enamoured with our away jerseys of recent years; somethin' missing, something...something...if this is the new look, I can't say they take away too much from the old look. A little more energy in them anyways, it might be a good change...

It really doesn't sound all that bad. Who cares if they tweak the jersies a little bit, JUST WIN RICH. I would rather have Big Ten Titles and NC appearances in pruple and pink jersies than crappy seasons in the same old uniform. BAM! Here we go again! lol

Thank you for the answers and insight you've given us Phil! We all appreciate it. Are you at liberty to let us know which player they are going to make available for retail? With us not having that one sure fire star, it got me to wondering and am very curious...!

The "M"s are bigger further down the sleave, no numbers on the sleaves. But yeah that's the general idea.
