mazebacker70 Don't you guy's think Michigan would be better if they used the FB during short yards and down around the goal line? Not just as a blocker but a carrier. I LOVE when RR uses the I-formation. It seems to work great for us, I wish RR would use it more.

Didn't work great against Illinois This actually raises a really good topic and at some point I may go back and try to chart our short yardage and goal line success based on formation. It always helps the success of a formation when you are 2 yards away so that could end up skewing the numbers but I still think it would be worth a look. My guess would be that for short yardage away from the goal line there won't be much difference but I have no clue what the goal line success would look like. At the end of the day it comes down to the guys up front, I-formation or not if the front 5 don't block it really doesn't matter what anyone else does.

It also helps if we run OTHER plays out of the i-formation. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I rarely remember us to do much more than running when in the i-formation. Some play-action and rolling the pocket would good ways to keep the defense honest. Go Blue!!
The division between the Rich Rod supporters and the Rich Rod bashers/Carr supporters is amazing and has turned this place upside down.

Some of the best play callers in football are the ones you use certain plays and formations to set up other plays. Go Blue!!

Did I imagine this or was there some report that Toussaint was really opening some eyes on the practice field last year. I thought there was and I'm excited to see what he can do. I loved his hs tape.

WR: someone needs to step up and become THE go to guy. Not impressed by many last season
If Hemingway can stay healthy he will be our best option, and he is by far our best deep threat, although Stonum is a better natural athlete. Also, Dorsey will most likely get looks at both corner and safety. He's too fast to keep off of the field, and he showed in the UA game that he makes plays on the ball, something our current safeties can't do because they can't get there to make a play. I'm praying to the Heavens for Greg Robinson to turn the corner with Mouton and Ezeh, any improvement from them would be huge.

I am with you on that, if he can do with Mouton and Ezeh what he did with Stevie Brown I will be ecstatic.

Wasn't that goaline stand that Illinois has against us out of the Goaline set and not the i-formation? And as for the play-action out of the i-formation... that's really why I like passing out of it. It works great when you run for a few plays and then go play action, roll out to one of the sides and have everybody run their routes to that side of the field... usually leaves a TE open as a check down route, if you're lucky you can beat the defense over the top.

If Taylor Lewan is everything he's cracked up to be, then he'll be our starting LT come the UConn game next season. If you had to rank our best OL going into 2010, how would you rank them? Go Blue!!
